Thinking of going to Wiesbaden,Germany?

Thinking about a 1 week vacation to Wiesbaden,Germany to visit my uncle and aunt..

What are some of the things i should see and do..

Wiesbaden is kind of a suburb of Frankfurt Am Main. You should definitely go into Frankfurt. It is one of the largest banking centres in Europe and is sometimes locally referred to as Main-hattan because of its skyscrapers (which really do not compare to manhattan). Since you're there for a week, you should drive down to the Black Forest region one day and maybe go over to Basel, Switzerland. Another trip if you have time is to Luxembourg. It is really a beautiful country. You should drive up through Belgium into Maastricht, Netherlands and come back down into Germany on your way back. There are plenty of things to do, you might look into taking a train up to Hamburg or taking a train trip to Berlin for a day or two. There are many possibilities.

Wow, EVERYONE has listed some great answers!!  I truly miss living there.  I was there myself from 99-02!

The only other place I can think of to see, unless I missed it in my reading, is the Koln (Cologne) cathederal.  Just got to the Main Hauptbahnof (trainstation), and jump the train to Koln.  All you have to do is walk outside of the station in Koln and it will be staring you right in the eye!! I live here in Wiesbaden, too, and it's definitely a great place to see.  It's the capital of the state of Hessen, and is situated close to Mainz (the capital of Rheinland-Pfalz) and Frankfurt-am-Main.  Someone earlier said that Wiesbaden was just a suburb of Frankfurt and that Frankfurt's much better to see, which I don't think is true.  If anything, Frankfurt resembles an American city more than any other European city I've yet seen; and although it's certainly worth a visit, it isn't somehow more worthy than Wiesbaden.  Everyone else's suggestions for the city thus far have been good... the Kurhaus and Kurpark behind it are worth seeing; the Russian Orthodox church up on the hill and the spiky-looking Marktkirche in the pedestrian area are also worth seeing.  If you come in late November or any time during December before Christmas, Wiesbaden has its own outdoor Christmas market called the Sternschnuppenmarkt, and is much like any other German Christmas market, complete with piping hot Gluhwein, a two-story carousel, and intoxicating smells of fresh lebkuchen.  The city has a very opulent-elegant look; many of the apartment buildings and storefronts look as though they belong along the Champs-Elysees in Paris.  Wiesbaden's famous baths as well as being a local government seat and a destination for the rich and powerful in its heyday contributed to the rich and detailed look that it maintains to this day.  There is a strong American presence in Wiesbaden AND in Mainz because there are thousands of soldiers who live in the area; there is even a PX and several housing areas about 1 minute up the road from the main train station (I should know, because I live in one of those housing areas!) :)  There's more than enough things to pick from in the immediate area around here, too.  If you need more suggestions or even pictures, contact me--I'll be more than happy to give you more information about this wonderful corner of Germany.

wiesbaden isn´t very far from frankfurt/main.

you should go there for a day. it´s a very nice city...

you can take a walk along the riverside, visit the römer or can go shopping...

Hey, that´s so great! I live in Wiesbaden and it´s one of the most beautiful cities in Germany with an amazing architecture!

You should definitely visit the Kurpark at the Wilhelmstraße (name of the street), it´s beautiful there. At the Wilhelmstraße there are a lot of designer stores (if you´re interested in shopping) and a nice casino.

Also visit the center of the town, great atmosphere and shopping facilities.

Wiesbaden also has the biggest cuckoo clock in the world, not very exiting, but maybe you wanna see it :-)

If you wanna go out you should go to "zocalo" at the taunusstraße (great cocktails and food...and full of Americans on Friday night), the "park cafe" at the wilhelmstraße and the American sports bar.

For coffee you should go to "Havana" at the market place.

The market takes place on Wednesdays.

Maybe you could also visit Mainz, another city near Wiesbaden (just 10 minutes away)

Take a cruise on the Rhein.  Stop and see some of the castles there too.

Mainz isn't too far.  There's beautiful churches to see there.  

The Frankfurt zoo is interesting.
