Question:

Thinking of moving from Florida to Medina, Ohio!?

My brother and his family have lived in Medina for a few years and I am now contemplating moving there!

I really would like to spend more time with my niece and nephew.

I currently live in Florida and have to decide if I could handle the winters up there (am originally from Niagara Falls, NY, but moved south a long time ago!) and also need to take a look at the availability of jobs there or in the surrounding area.

We are in hurricane season once again and it is getting old! My hope is that the winters may be easier to handle, but not sure!

Would love to get some input.

Any suggestions on questions to ask myself in order to make this major decision?

Need to check the job status in Akron and Cleveland area, too. Looks like it would be closer to work in Akron; easier to drive to work from Medina?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

  1. Winters in Medina probably are easier than Niagra.  From what friends in Buffalo describe, Medina would be a lot easier.  Ohio in general has a very nice 4 season year.  Winters are snowy but not ridiculously cold (not for long periods that is).  Summer is very nice.  Not too humid and not too hot.  Fall and spring are beautiful.  Ohioans are generally very friendly.  IMO, Akron is not so nice but I'm from Youngstwon and it's even less nice.  Don't know your line of work but the drive from Medina to Akron wouldn't be bad at all, although I haven't been through there during rush hour in quite a few years.

It's a good location if you like concerts.  There's Blossom, Richfield Coluseum, and you're not too far from Pittsburgh.  You'll be close to Cleveland and the Cedar Point (the best amusement park probably in the world).  Yes, the world!!!  I say go for it.  Florida is far from your family and it's way too hot and humid.
