Question:

Thinking of moving to the Charlotte area, but want to find a job in NASCAR. Am I nuts?!?!?!?!?

I have been down to the northern Charlotte area a bunch of times and love it. I am thinking of moving down there but really only want to make the big move if I can find a position in the NASCAR or a NASCAR related field. I have my bachelor's degree in Accounting and currently have a full time job, but everything is so expensive in NJ and it is time for change. I have flown down to Charlotte and visited almost every race shop to drop off my resume, and every time you get the same response (we are not looking for anyone with your expertise at this time). I wrote follow up letters, sent my resume through the mail addressed to Human Resources and additional copies to the accounting department, and nothing. Obviously I would be best suited in an accounting position, but I am willing to try new things. Does anyone have any advice for me?? Should I find a regular accounting job first and move, then look for the NASCAR job? Thanks everyone.

  1. Good luck dude.  I live near Charlotte.... its a BEAUTIFUL place to live and I will NEVER leave here.... but getting a job in NASCAR is a tough thing to do!  Find a regular job first and move.... then pursue your dream.

  2. Check Jayski.com for racing job listings.

  3. Go for it, I would try a smaller team first, but once you get some experience, who knows.

  4. My brother is serving a mission in Charlotte. It's a nice area. :)

NASCAR is awesome! Go for it! It won't hurt to try!

  5. Nascar is amazing. Nascar it up man!

  6. find a regular job and then look

  7. The best thing I can tell you is go ahead and move there and get set up and try volunteering for a team doing "odd jobs" around the shop and maybe get your foot in the door that way.  I know a guy that works for Petty and that is how he got in it took a while for them to really notice him and finally offer him a paying gig but it worked.

  8. Do it! Make sure to include the term 'shake 'n' bake" on your resume.

  9. obvious;ly you need experience.

  10. you're a business man and cant spell it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. No, you are not nuts. I moved down here way back in 1994. I love the area, even if everyone is moving here. I doubt you will regret being in the Charlotte/Mooresville area. Lake Norman is fun this time of year. Traffic sucks, but as far as I know, that is my only legitimate complaint. It will be easier to find a job when you live here. The popular race teams are slammed every day with resumes and people looking for work. Maybe a sports marketing firm could use you.

  12. Here this might help ya.  I've been in NC now for about 5 years and it isnt too bad.  Charlotte is a nice area.

*edit - I've actually been in NC for almost 7 years, dang time flies.  And they have an accouting position open in Charlotte right now!  Wow, this could be your lucky day!
