plya del carmen is great. town small not to small though.Excursions are close by, stayed at All Enclusive. Took ferry to cozumel.Better than huge cancun. Must know lot of beaches are topless.Beaches & water are pretty.Can check with hotel about topless situation.

Great choice. Lots of restaurants ( yum! ), tons of shopping ( ka-ching! ), lots of white sand beach to just reax ( zzzzzzz ) , secluded but not so secluded that you can't jump in a car and see some sights. There are the Mayan ruins, Xel-Ha ( kids absolutely love this place ) , a croc farm ( get pictures taken holding baby crocs ), Cancun not too far away- just so much to see and do. You can snorkel right off the beach and if you scuba dive, there are plenty of dive shops to cater to your needs. You will absolutely love Playa and so will your fam! ( Can I come with? )

I think playa del carmen would be a more appropriate place for a family vacation. The beaches are beautiful and the water azul blue. I normally stay in Cancun but am planning my next trip to Mexico in Playa Del Carmen. I would definitly go!

I would might suggest Cozumel instead- It's super safe, clean and is very family friendly! The Melia is a great place for children of all ages, they have special programs and activities for children under 12. Older children will enjoy also. Cozumel has some of the best beaches and is really fun and easy to navigate if you rent a jeep. (I reccomend this- my husband and I went to cozumel for our honeymoon in 12/07 and the jeep was awesome! There is so much to see and explore on the island without being able to get too lost!) Look into cozumel, it is only a 20 min. ferry ride from playa del carmen! Hope this helps!
