I'm thinking of taking 6 months off work and travelling aroudn the world. yes, I know, the typical thing loads of students do after they graduate. Well, I'm male, 28 & from the UK, and Im just wondering if anyone else has done what I'm thinking of doing? I have a vague route of London -> Singapore -> (working my way through asia visiting places such as Cambodia, Vietman, thailand etc etc) then getting a flight tio Australia, working my way down the east coast from carins to possibly sydney or melbourne then getting on a place & going to Fiji then onto the states (unknown destinations at the moment) then home.

I'm hoping to do it all in 6 mnths for under £6000.

Anyone done a similar route?

Any good / bad points, suggestions, thoughts, experience.

Thanks.

PS: I've been told good looking guys make lots of friends whilst travelling, is that right? If so, I think I should be ok. (Without sounding big headed!)

cheers guys!

  1. Do it!!! Your late twenties is probably your last chance unless you are a totally unique individual. I've traveled through SE Asia before for two months on about 1,500 dollars US and ate and drank everything I wanted to, got spa treatments, massages, etc. With your kind of cash you could travel for a year if you wanted to. If you stick to SE Asia, you could easily live off about 10 pounds a day, staying in a hotel. Right now I am planning a trip too (my job in Japan is just about complete so I"m going to stick around Asia) and I've done a lot of research. I recomend Airtreks based out of San Francisco for great SE Asia round the world tickets. Also, to add cheaper point to point flights from main hubs such as Bangkok, go with Air Asia. They fly to points like Bali, Kuala Lampur, Taipei, Shanghai, for about 100 dollars roundtrip! They even go to Austrailia. For you I highly recomend, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. These are all countries where you can live well of 10 pounds or so a day and there are tons of things to do and see and the people are great. While your in the area don't rule out Nepal and S. China. Other great spots to see. Make sure you take care of necessary visa's ahead of time, and sure you will meet many other travelers! Don't forget weather is different in those areas. Your summer may be thier winter and monsoon/typhoon seasons happen in some areas around OCt. Get out there and follow your dream and do what most other people are too afraid to do, but will regret not doing later. One more tip. Check out the couch surfers's website. I myself have used it various times and it has changed my whole idea of travel, plus it is a great way to meet people on the road, get a local to show you around, and just make friends. http://www.couchsurfing.com/
