Ok well, this year is my final year at high school..I actually just started a new school this year...and last year I was at a differnet school as well but they shut grades 10,11,12 soo I got to choose whatever school I wanted to attend...so now I started attending a new school this year....but I really want to do home schooling ...so I can go by my own pace....I have an appointment with the home learners program principle on wednesday...and I know hes going to ask why I want to do home schooling....I really just don't know ...I just feel like going at my own pace...and I don't know what else to say....what else can I say to convince the principle of the home learners program to let me as a full time student....?? I'm sure many of you are home schoolers...so please try to help me out..what can I say to the principle to persuade him to think that it's suitable for me...and what should I say when he asks why do you want to leave public school????

  1. OK, the credible answer you seek comes from some different sources:

    1) Yourself: Going at your own pace is your stated reason.  So, I would want to know is that different from the pace of the "regular" classes....and if different, is it faster or slower.  If it is different, (you will need to have proof of this to help convince the authorities) be sure the school systems doesn't already accommodate it with special classes.  Once you establish the need for your own pace, it will be very useful to set some benchmarks...goals...so they can be assured you are making progress and not falling farther behind.

    2) The State or School standards: You need to define an education plan that will show your home study will provide you with an education that is on par with the "standard" plan for the State or School.  And then be sure to be able to demonstrate an adequate mastery of the subject matter so they can see you have indeed made academic progress while studying at home.

    3) Future schools (if you intended to pursue studies beyond High School) that you might want to attend.  Research their views of home schooled students....what documentation they require for entrance to the college....and make sure your home school education plan will meet their requirements so you can continue on in your education.

I think if you organize these items when you go in for the interview, they should be inclined to give your request serious consideration.  However, you should also be prepared, that if you don't meet the benchmarks you set for yourself, they will have serious cause to deny future home schooling request to send to them.

  2. Tell him/her you work better at home in a nice quit comfortable envirment as well as being alone being in a classroom distracts you from working and ask for him to give you a chance
