Thinking while running?

Whenever I run long distance, I half-consciously recite catchy lyrics in my head :P Does that disadvantage me?]

Thanks

  1. i used to this all the time to motivate me,but the noise of my panting and struggling got to loud-lol- so i got me an i-pod shuffle to intentionally listen to motivational music.

one of my favorite things about running is not thinking about the bullshit in everyday life like bills, exams.its my time out.

  2. only is its a slow song  :)

  3. I'm no proffestionel, but I think that thinking while running is a good thing.  For me, it's better than thinking about how tired you are.  I too sing songs in my head or just think about life.  Maybe it is disadvantageous, but it makes running more fun!

  4. Try playing a song in your head with a constant beat.

This way, you can pace your strides and your breaths from the beat. If you improve significanly, you can try a song with a quicker tempo and see if you can keep up with it.

  5. That's a really good idea, I do the same exact thing to be honest with you. I usually sing "Stronger" by Kanye West because he says how this won't kill him, it will only make him stronger and that is how I feel about running cross country and track. I'll be in the middle of a race and I'll be dying but I'll tell myself that this won't kill me -- it will just make me stronger.

...and it does, every single time.

  6. no it keeps your mind off of the pain, jus tlike an ipod, I rather think about race strategy though, like who I need to pass and if my pace is right.. but i do think of lyrics at times also

  7. Not if you are just training, but while racing that could actually hurt you if you start to lose focus, you may slip into bad form, or a slower pace than you should be running.

  8. No, that is good, it will keep your mind off of how tired you are getting from running.
