Third baseman Brent Morel receives little assurance on his future – MLB News
The Chicago White Sox management knows their needs at third base. Despite having some of the established third basemen in the roster, they always look to add more fire power for potential backup reasons.
White Sox new general manager Rick Hahn also recently tried to make sure that his team’s outlook will be complete in the next Major League Baseball season. However, Hahn also knows that the White Sox’s few third basemen have not been fit and are out of action.
One of them is Brent Morel who could not finish the season on a high note and was limited to just 76 Major League games with his back issues.
He averaged .177 hitting average along with five RBIs and .225 OBP. Though he is a good player and received much appreciation since his arrival in the league but still his late injury now giving him troubles to even stay with the team who earlier showed enormous confident on him.
“That’s the No. 1 thing for us, to get him in there and see him again, He’s not out of the equation for me at all. Him being healthy and getting back in, he’s a good third baseman when he’s healthy,” White Sox manager Robin Ventura said about Morel as he explained in the media about his future chances with the team.
Later general manager Rick Hahn commented on Morel and said, “We thought he was an everyday guy, They feel with his diligence on the program that this thing is hopefully behind him, It’s tough with backs. It’s tricky. We’ll have to see through his ramping up, training regimen, baseball activity and spring training games and regular season games and react accordingly to how he feels.”
The White Sox drafted Morel in 2008 Major League Draft with high expectations. He played almost two years in the Minor League and made his debut in the Major League in 2010.
Since then, he has been part of Chicago’s team roster and showed enormous improvement. He is currently having career hitting average of .230 along with 13 home-runs, 53 RBIs and .273 OBP.
