Third baseman Kevin Youkilis remembers his time with Boston Red Sox – MLB Update
Though veteran third baseman Kevin Youkilis has joined the New York Yankees but he is still remembering his time with the Boston Red Sox where he played almost seven years after coming in the Chicago White Sox and then the New York based baseball franchise.
He was recently talking to some media personals in New York City.
“To say that you negate all the years I played for the Boston Red Sox and all the tradition and you look at all the stuff I have piled up in my house, to say I just throw it out the window, it’s not true, I’ll always be a Red Sock. Guys play on different
teams but that’s part of history,” Youkilis said upon checking into the Yankees’ universe yesterday morning at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
He added with more confidence showing his great love for his former team where he spent some of the best years along with the poor season he had which was the reason he was first traded to White Sox and then he joined the Yankees, “It was great years in
Boston. One bad half year (last season) doesn’t take away all the great years I had there. I saw a Red Sox fan this morning and I bought him coffee and we talked.”
Youkilis had calm 2012 Major League Baseball season. He achieved relatively consistent stats of .235 hitting average along with 19 home runs, 60 RBIs and .336 OBP. Overall he is carrying a good career hitting average of .283 along with 148 home runs, 610
RBIs and .384 OBP.
The Yankees signed Youkilis to fill Alex Rodriguez’s spot. Rodriguez has been injured and might not return in 2013 MLB season.
Meanwhile, experts say despite Kevin Youkilis’ love for his former franchise, he will be a key player for the Yankees in this coming season. He is an experienced campaigner and knows his game quite well.
He will be joining toughest players in the entire league in the New York Yankees roster and will try his best to achieve them consistency in every aspect of the game.
