Third baseman Miguel Cabrera putting together another excellent season – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers Manager Jim Leyland is convinced that Miguel Cabrera is the best hitter in Major League Baseball right now. Since making his debut for the Tigers, the hard hitting Cabrera has given some unbelievable performances.
With 30 home-runs and 100-plus RBI’s, Cabrera played a big part in Tigers’ American League Central Division winning campaign last season and he has not shown any signs of slowing down this season either. With each passing game, Tigers third baseman is getting
better and better, sending a strong message across the AL Central Division.
It will not be wrong to say that he is putting together an MVP calibre season this year. His stats are simply staggering, particularly, considering the fact he made a poor start to the season. So far, he is averaging .322, which is considerably higher than
his career average.
"I mean this respectfully," Leyland said during the interview. "I don't mean this disrespectfully -- I think what could be a little problem for Miggy ... he could run into one of these Wonderboy stories. You know -- a young kid, 20 years old, everybody
gets excited about that, everybody loves that."
"I think the numbers that Miggy has had over his career, and he's putting up unbelievable numbers again this year, I think that should be a part of it. Although this certainly is a great story with the Trout kid, because he's unbelievable."
His On Base Percentage of .383 is also among the best in the league. With 29 home-runs and 95 RBI’s, he has looked like an absolutely unstoppable force. Not only is Cabrera an excellent hitter, he is reliable and durable as he hardly misses any games. Furthermore,
he is a master of passing on valuable skills to the youngsters in the Minor League.
Of course, with the addition of Prince Fielder there is less responsibility on Cabrera’s shoulders. However, giving results on consistent basis demands a lot of hard work, concentration and skills. It seems Cabrera possesses all these qualities and it will
be interesting to see if he can help the Tigers lift the World Series title after almost two decades.
