Third round of Avantha Masters concludes with South African Jbe Kruger at the top Part-1
The third round of the Avantha Masters on the European Tour has now come to a conclusion with South African Jbe Kruger at the top with an aggregate of 11-under, 205.
The young Kruger who has been in contention in both the season-starters in South Africa, carded a blistering round of six-under, 66 to edge past the rest of the contenders on the field.
His round included two glistening eagles on par-five,6th and par-four, 15th, alongside two birdies on the 18-hole stretch. He is now leading the event by one shot.
Earlier, Jose Manuel Lara shot a whipping eight-under, 64 in the morning and threw himself right into contention, surpassing the overnight leader Peter Whiteford.
His magical round included nine birdies and dropped one shot in the whole day.
His poor performance on the opening day, where he fell for a sloppy two-over, forced him to settle for a joint fifth for the moment.
Lara said, "I didn’t start very well with a bogey at the third, so I just tried something different and played more aggressively and it worked. I played very well from tee to green and my putter was very good today. I had five birdies on the back nine so I was very happy with that".
He continued, "And to have nine birdies from the fourth to the 18th is very pleasing, but the main thing was that my putting was really good. The last two days I’ve been struggling a little bit, but today was much better".
Top-ranking European Tour players were not present in the event, as most of them have decided to take a break for the upcoming WGC Accenture Match Play event in Arizona, US.
A trip down to India would definitely have taken a toll with considerable jetlag.
None of the Indian players have broken the headlines, although the officials at the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) have been quite hopeful of an Indian victory.
This is the third time the Avantha Masters have been played over the scenic DLF Golf and Country Club.
SSP Chowrasia, the self-taught golfer of the country, won his second European Tour event last year. He has also failed to impress the local crowd gathered to witness the alien sport.
