Dulko/ Pennetta dismiss Hsieh/ Voskoboeva in 2nd round – China Open 2011
Third seeded team of Flavia Pennetta with Gisela Dulko got rid of Su-Wei Hsieh with Galina Voskoboeva in the doubles second round of the China Open 2011. The two squads took up the gauntlet on the outdoor hard courts of the National
Tennis Center in Beijing, China. After one hour and twenty seven minutes the third seeded couple was able to secure a place in the third round by winning in straight sets of 6-4, 7-6(4).
After winning the pitch, the first round of the match was opened by Dulko/ Pennetta and although, they were not able to hold their serve in the first game, they managed to even the scoreboard at 1-1 by breaking back in the second
game. Thus by the end of the first two games both the teams had capitalized on an early break to round of the score.
During the following two games they won on alternate serves to progress the scoreboard on even terms at 2-2 and then 3-3 by the end of the sixth game, as the teams broke each other back to back. As the players again won on alternate
games the score levelled at 4-4 by the end of the eighth game. During the last two games Dulko/ Pennetta were able to hold serve and then got a lucky break in the tenth game. As they stole the last game from their opponents, they bagged the opening set with
a 6-4 victory and were now one up in the match.
The toe-to-toe run carried well into the second set and opening the second set was again Dulko/ Pennetta. This time the squads were neck on neck into each other and kept winning their on their own serves for the first six games.
The score kept tied at 4-4, then 5-5 and it was finally pushed into a tie breaker at 6-6 as the teams broke each other one after the other in the last two games.
Although their unseeded opponents forced the tiebreaker, they soon lost steam. Breaking their opponents early on, the third seeds rushed to an early 3-0 lead. Progressing on service from there on giving one or two points in between,
the 2011 Australian Open doubles champions maintained their lead throughout. Standing at 6-4, the Argentine Italian duo forced an error from their opponents to clinch a 7-4 tiebreaker win, sealing their straight sets win.
The third seeded pair will now be facing the seventh seeded Chinese pair of Shuai Peng with Jie Zheng in the quarterfinal of the event.
