Question:

Thirsty and craving red meat like mad!

This is weird. Lately I've been so incredibly thirsty that I am drinking water nonstop. I quit drinking my diet soda and rarely drink tea or coffee. I just want water constantly. I have three normal sized and one huge water bottle in the fridge that I refill. Just when I finish drinking the last one in the fridge the first one I put back in is starting to get cold. I just rotate them out all day. It has been this way for one week now. I take water with me everywhere including when I drive, but by the time I reach the end of my driveway the bottle I took with me is already empty.

I'm also always tired. I used to be up at the least 18 hours a day, now I can barely make 12. I'm not depressed though.

I'm craving red meat, but I've always hated red meat. Sometimes I will eat part of a small taco if it comes with a dinner at a Mexican restaurant or I'll eat meat on a pizza from a restaurant but that is the only times I ever eat it.

I'm also craving cheese like mad. I went grocery shopping and bought some staples, then more cheese. Right now I have six different types of cheeses in my fridge and I usually eat cheese like once a week! I don't eat much cheese a day (it would be too high in calories), but I have been having some every day.

I still haven't bought any red meat, I don't like the smell of it. That is why it is weird that I want it so bad. It has only been this way for a week, but worse every day.

I'm in my late twenties so it isn't some sort of teenage or change of life thing going on. I'm not anemic, I was tested for that not too long ago. I believe I've had my sugar tested not too long ago.

Would this only be caused by having a bad diet? I thought for the most part my diet was pretty good, and I always said I'd quit diet soda someday but then suddenly I didn't need it anymore and didn't realize I haven't had any until two days later because I'm so thirsty for water.

I really thought for the most part my diet is pretty good and I don't have any health problems so I'm confused.

  1. There is nothing wrong with drinking water. Perhaps, since it is the hottest part of the year, you are drinking more water to cool you down. Since there is no calories in water and you have been consuming a lot of it, you are craving food that has calories, like cheese. You also might be hungrier for something with more salt and sodium than that of water so that is why you are craving red meat. There is nothing wrong with drinking water, eating cheese, or red meat. They all are very good for your health so don't get worked up over nothing.

  2. I agree with Max and his rational.  I tend to drink a lot of water during the summer months.  I don't typically eat a lot of red meat, but felt the urge to chow down a T-bone steak last night with a bunch of tomatos and veggies.  Sometimes it is okay to respond to your body's craving.  It sounds like you have always been conscientious of your diet.  It's okay to have those unusal cravings from time to time.  My energy level tends to get a bit low, especially in high heat.  Perhaps, your body is just getting adjusted to the changes.
