  1. You do not need to buy a new TV.

Digital TV signals can be cheaply converted to the old analog type.

If you use Dish or DirectTV, the satellite signals have always been digital, there is a converter built into the receivers that converts the digital satellite signals to analog.

You have already made the transition to digital TV, you just didn't know it.

If you get your local channels with an antenna, you will need either a cheap converter box or a satellite receiver with a digital over the air tuner built in.

  2. you will not have to buy a new set as long as you are using a satellite dish. it is just going to effect people using antenna. analog sets should continue to work as before if connected to a subscription service such as cable or satellite TV

  3. Well, if your not worried about details, you can rest assured you wont need to buy a new TV. This applies only to those using the huge antenna's on the top of their house from the 50s. Satellite is fine.
