Remember decades ago when this type of opportunities came along from time to time?: Employers desperately looking for employees (mostly laborers), would pay whole relocation process for them? This included trip and at times housing for long periods of time.

Know of any such State or employer still doing this?

  1. This is the norm in the US.  We've moved across the country several times due to change in employment and we've never paid for a move.  The employers pay for the cost of shipping, travel, hotels, temporary housing, house-hunting trips, sometimes meals.  They also reimburse for the cost of the trip for the job interview.  I can't even imagine taking on that expense for a new job.  Who could afford to do that?

  2. It happens in Canada for some jobs with some employers in some locations.  For example, people who work in oil fields or mining towns in northern Canada often have many such fringe benefits.  If you are hired by the government of Nunavut all your travel expenses to get to your new place of employment, as well as moving expenses for household effects, are paid in full, and housing and utilities are heavily subsidized in communities in Nunavut.

  3. If you work for the federal government or military they will sometimes do this.  (depends on the case)

Also, some of the big oil field companies in northern Alberta are now doing this to bring in families.  (they found the worker wasnt staying as long when it became to hard to be separated from family)

I believe the big banks do this too.  (Royal, CIBC etc)
