I am 32 weeks pregnant and I have begun leaking breastmilk...a lot. I dont mean just a little here and there. I am leaking so much that I can literally hold a bottle under my nipple and catch about 6 oz in about 30 minutes. I know this cant be normal even for a mother who is already breastfeeding. I was told to bind my breast for a while to slow the flow but I dont want it to stop because I do plan to breastfeed. Besides that...if you have been pregnant before you know that your breast are already VERY tender and putting pressure on them hurts like h**l. What should I do? A friend suggested that I go ahead and start pumping and store the milk but the problem with that is I dont have a pump and I had made prior arrangements with a local organizations that was going to give me one AFTER the baby was born.

  1. Good for you that you have such an abundance of breast milk for your baby that's coming!  If it were me, I'd hand express it and save it in the freezer.  You can also rent a pump for a few months from most medical supply stores.  Otherwise, try cold cabbage leaves on the b*****s.  Usually cold compresses slows the flow.  But be careful!  You don't want the milk to stop!

  2. I have never heard of this. I have four children and never had this problem. I would suggest telling your OB or getting in touch with a LLC at your local hospital. http://www.llli.org/

  3. I agree with the pumping and storing, you might want to talk to the organization about getting it sooner, also look into WIC they have them too. I would also check with your doctor to be sure, but I don't see anything wrong with it, while I was pumping one side, I would fill a bottle from the other side just by leaking. You can also hand express and store it that way too. You can try and search videos on how to, but start from about your armpit and gently push down until you get to your arreola. Do it in the inside and underneath your breast too. I would not bind them, that doesn't make since if you do want to breastfeed and would only cause you pain.

  4. try bags of corn from the frozen section, an call your ob.  and a lactation consultant....things dont sound right

  5. Go to the doctor.  Doesn't sound right.

  6. No binding, that will mess up your supply for later.

No pumping, there is concern that this may encourage early labor.

I would call your OB, this indicates an imbalance in the hormones, and may mean that they want to watch you closely for preterm labor. That sure is a lot of milk. You are going to do great with breastfeeding!

  7. Dont start pumping. It will make your oversupply worse and could lead to overactive letdown. I would suggest you dont pump until the baby is 6 weeks old, to get your supply regulated. Save the milk that does come out and put it in the freezer, you will have some stores for your baby.

Also, if you pump,it could start early labor!

  8. that is definaley not normal i would go get it checked out straight away!!! al least you will have no problems breast feeding

  9. if you call the hospital you plan on delievering at alot of times they will give you a hand pump. if you get too tednder a warm wash cloth or shower will realease some of it. your body makes what the baby needs so i wouldnt worry about too much coming out. i would store and freeze it if possible because it will help later when baby coomes.

  10. well there is no sence in pumping if you are still pregnant since right now the only thing you are producing is colustrum and its not actually breast milk. Breast milk dosnt come in untill after baby is born.

If you are seriously leaking like 288 oz of fluid is a 24 hour period something is up and you need to be checked out.

  11. Every womans boday is different. I have a friend who has never had a baby and she produces milk from her right breat, enough that she says she can squeeze it and shoot it across the room. I would ask your doctor about it anyways, but I doubt there is a serious issue.

  12. yum

  13. You don't need to pump with a pump -- i hand express into a those platex drop in bottles then i transfer the pumped milk into one of those milk freezer bags for breastmilk. You should call a lactation consulatant who can give you guidance about your active letdown!
