“This game is a lesson for us”- FC Porto boss Vitor Pereira rues his side’s draw with Feirense
FC Porto boss, Vitor Pereira, lamented his side’s draw with Feirense and said that they would try to take a lesson from the match into their next Portuguese Primeira Liga game against Benfica over the upcoming weekend.
The Portuguese champions faced Feirense in their weekend clash at Estádio Marcolino de Castro and despite being the visitors, it was expected that Porto would comfortably ensure three points.
However what unfolded was a real shock, as Vitor Pereira’s men halted their perfect start to the season and were held to an uninspiring 0-0 draw by the hard-working Feirense, who tried to catch their opponents on the counter-attack.
Adding to their woes was the fact that their arch-rivals, Benfica, destroyed Academica 4-1, a feat which earned them top-spot in the rankings.
As they face the Eagles in their next Liga Sagres fixture, the pressure of responding from his side’s draw will be on Vitor Pereira, who said that he had learnt many lessons from the match.
Speaking to reporters, the tactician said that while the home side fully deserved the win as they gave everything in attack, his players should have capitalized on the chances they created, which ultimately cost them the match.
“Feirense played against a well organized and dangerous in transition, because it is a team with fast players up front. We got opportunities, but also in balance and thus allow the Feirense approaching our goal and create danger.”
Pereira also said that if his team were not going to take their chances in the future they would suffer the same consequence, which could be potentially dangerous to their title ambitions.
“http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 in the first part was not at their level and tried to accelerate in the second, but often with the heart, without set the pace, leaving the game open, which is dangerous,” the trainer was quoted as saying.
FC Porto will now look to make a swift comeback and they have the best opportunity coming up, as they play Benfica, who are currently level on points but behind on goal difference, at Estadio do Dragao in their next Portuguese Primeira Liga fixture.
