I used to love boxing...i still like it. the last fight i saw was the mayweather vs. hatton fight...and the mayweather vs. de la hoya (i think) fight...but i remember bakk in da day...when it was tyson, lewis, holyfield...and u had these people who would try to contend. but it seemed like there was always just one heavyweight champion.

did this all change? and if so when? it also seems like major fights used to happen wayyy more often on the heavyweight level.

Has there been anything great since the tyson, holyfield, lennox day?

is there anyone right now on the heavyweight level who could be considered to just be a "beast" like tyson or holyfield were?

Do you think the sport will ever get back to like it was in that day?

Do you think they will combine all these belts into one again? like can they just have a playoff of the people w/ the top belts and pick one overall winner and do rankings after that??

as u can tell im not caught up in da boxing world, lol.

  1. there are 4 main belts in all 17 divisions,

    the world boxing association (wba)

    the world boxing council (wbc)

    the world boxing origination (wbo)

    international boxing federation (ibf)

the others which are not taken seriously are the ibo, ibc, wbf.

as far as the heavyweight titleholders go....they are:

vladimir klitschko (ibf / wbo / ibo)

    samuel peter (wbc)

    ruslan chagaev (wba)

each organization has a website, and you can get all boxers records here.

  2. WBA-Ruslan Chagaev

    WBC-Samule Peter

    IBF-Wladimir Klitschko

    WBO-Wladimir Klitschko

4 main belts for world championship

    Ruslan Chagaev fights soon

and so does Klitschko, an everyone wants to see a peter Klitschko fight.

  3. Here's the current Heavyweight Champs

    WBA-Ruslan Chagaev

    WBC-Samule Peter

    IBF-Wladimir Klitschko

    WBO-Wladimir Klitschko

This are the 4 top boxing organizations.....heavyweight fight are not too popular now not like before during the Tyson, Holyfield, Ali era.....its the welterweight division and lightweight division, superfeatherweight division this are the division that is fun to watch.

They wont combine the belts into one...you can be the undisputed champion if you have all the four belts.

  4. I understand your pain my man.  This answer may be long, but if you stick with it, ALL of your questions will be truthfully answered.  Right now, there is no heavyweight champion, there are three different titleholders-

    WBA- Ruslan Chagaev

    WBC- Samuel Peter

    IBF and WBO- Wladimir Klitschko

Klitschko is currently considered as the number one guy right now and Peter is the number 2.  In order for there to be a true and linear heavyweight champion- like Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, etc., the two top contenders must fight each other.  When Lewis retired, he retired as champ, so the linearity was broken, and it has not been filled since. As I already pointed out- number 1 is Klitschko and number 2 is Peter.  They have fought once before with Klitschko winning a decision, but the circumstances were different, if they were to fight now, we would have the first true heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis retired and that fight would GREATLY clear up the mess that is the heavyweight division currently.  The "one" heavyweight title that you speak of was always the linear title- since the 1970's, there have been different corrupted sanctioning bodies, and there have become more over the years (WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO).  True fans, such as myself don't really care about the sanctioning organizations because they are only in it for the money- I only pay attention to the linear and true champions and at heavyweight, there is none right now.  I still watch the heavyweights whenever they are on, but when there is no true champion to follow, it gets boring.  Back in the day, it was almost MANDATORY that a heavyweight title fight had to be on Pay Per View.  Nowadays, you're lucky if you'll see a heavyweight title fight on regular HBO- and I'm only 18, but I remember when guys like Holyfield and Lewis carried the divsion with honor.  Right now, the fights that are being held are boring as h**l because there are no good personalities in the heavyweight division.  There has been no one like a Tyson or a Holyfield and it has nothing to do with them not being American- it has to do with them not being entertaining or having any personality.  The sport itself is not suffering like many would have you believe, right now it is only the heavyweights who are suffering.  Over the past year or so, boxing in general has actually risen very high in terms of match-making and money-making, but the heavyweights have fallen greatly.  The lighter weight classes are extremely entertaining, and even up to cruiserweight is fun to watch, but as soon as you get to heavyweight it becomes boring.  Like all things, it is a cycle- it is bad right now, but I guarantee you it will get better.  Right now, the welterweight divison is great, but in 10 years it might be boring.  Right now, the heavyweight division sucks, but in a few years, it might be phenomenal again.  The belts will never morph into one, because as I already pointed out, they are only in it for the money and will never do anything to help the sport out.  You should pay attention to Ring Magazine's champions and rankings because their's are the only one's who are not biased or unfair.  The Ring's champions represent the linear and true champions in each weight divison and their rankings are a million times better than any of the sanctioning bodies (literally).  Here are their rankings from heavyweight to strawweight: http://thering-online.com/ringpages/rati...
