Question:

This humanity and the consumption of meat

As we all know, this humanity have put itself in a very comfortable, double standed position. We want peace but look at what we do to animals. I've been told I need to eat meat because it has the proteins I need. But why do I need it? Because my ancestors (the caveman) consumed it and thus it is part of my diet history. But I consider this pattern sick and disgusting. I know Nature is wild and cruel when it comes to surviving but I think fully evolved humans as conscious beings should avoid/erase this sick history.

My question: I want to stop eating meat so what can I take in order to compensate the meat protein? Do you know of any products in the market? Thanks.

  1. First, no one can erase history. You can ignore it, ridicule it, deny it but it did happen. Live with it.

Assuming you are an adult, then nobody is forcing you to eat meat. If you don't like it, fine, don't eat it. You don't need to demonize something to make yourself feel good or give your life some sort of meaning.

If you are really interested on where you can get your protein, then google it or ask your doc. The info you will get is more factual than what you will receive here. Personally, I don't trust my health and nutrition to non-professionals or experts very few of whom you will find here.

Seven line rant then a two line question leads me to believe you are not looking for real answers, just a soapbox for your views.

  2. I understand your opinion in the matter, so I will say that some "vegans" believe it's ok to get their protein from other foods, it depends on what level of "vegan" you are, some eat fish but don't eat red meat.  As for my opinion, if I go without some form of red meat for too long, I feel like I am missing something.  And I actually thought about becoming a vegan until I saw the movie "I Am Legend", his desperation at getting any form of red meat without another alternative except canned foods made me really appreciate and not take for granted the amount of food at our disposal.  I will also bring up another point about the Indians that used to live here before we did-when they killed a buffalo or a deer or any other wildlife for food, they used EVERY piece of the animal and did not waste anything.  Yet we waste things everyday!

  3. You probably already get plenty of protein in your diet without even eating meat. All types of non-meat products have protein like grains and beans and nuts.

An easy snack is to make a trail mix of sorts. You can use all kinds of nuts or seeds and then mix it up with dried fruit like cranberries, raisins, apples, pineapple. Also some chocolate chips YUM! This will make your tummy very full very quickly

You can get protein from beans like soy, or chick peas. Tofu is made from soy beans, it's not necessary that you eat tofu to replace meat.  Soy contains all the essential amino acids and surpasses all other food plants in the amount of protein that it can deliver to the human system. You can get hummus it's a tasty replacement for meat on sandwiches, it's kind of bland so mix it with spices or even hot peppers.

Any type of beans are good though.

Even grains and vegetables and fruits have protein in them, just not in the same proportion that meat does.

What really is the problem here is that people have been "tricked' into believing that meat and (ridiculously)  high amounts of protein are essential to your diet. Only 10 percent of the total calories consumed by the average human being need be in the form of protein.

Consuming too much protein can cause depressions, sleeplessness (see site13) and vitamin D deficiency, and lack of vitamin B2, B6 and folic acid for these are required to process protein.

    Good luck with being vegetarian.

  4. Legumes (beans) have alot of protein, so do chickpeas.

  5. If you consider it sick quit,  Nobody is forcing you to eat anything.  However do not try to convince me that I am wrong in my diet.
