  1. You're gunna love it, Heart!  Australia's a big, wide open country with plenty of space & light, beautiful landscape, amazing unique animals, birds and plants, friendly, relaxed people, good food, and a wonderful lifestyle.  Just approach us with a friendly smile and we'll forgive your Noo Yoik accent!  LOL

There are loads of Aussies on here, and you can make us your contacts if you want to ask questions.

You can also make Aussie friends before you come by joining the free online site, Couchsurfing.com, which is really worth the effort to explore.

    good luck mate!

  2. We do have an unusual sense of humour in Australia ,but we are more likley to laugh at ourselves first before others and we difinitley will love your accent ,come on down.

  3. Oh ..tell the truth you lot,,,of course we will make fun of you,,we do to every one,,BUT ,,we dont mean any harm or offence,,thats just our way of being friendly, its only in jest !

  4. Sydney is an awesome city, your gunna love it! People wont make fun of you, we have tons of multiculturisim here with Chinese, Lebanese, Vietnamese, Italian, Thai, Malaysian, Indian and Iraqi being the most predominant ethnic groups.

  5. They speak English - you'll be fine. People will be attracted to you due to your accent - other than that you'll be the same as them in their eyes. It's not like you're moving to hicks ville China.

  6. Australia is a very very friendly place but sydney is quite arrogant and fast paced but nothing like New York. You guys walk about 4 or 5 times faster than those in Sydney. I've experienced this first hand  a little girl with short legs outwalked me without a problem and was waiting fro me to catch up all the time, i couldn't believe it.

Im in Brisbane but lived in Sydney all my life, it is so much better and friendlier in Brisbane. But you will like Sydney there is heaps to do.

It's pretty cold in winter but doesn't snow.

Lots of things are open late.

    There's heaps of shopping.

    The harbour is nice

    the bridge is nice

    the beaches are nice

public transport is c**p and expensive

and the night life is pretty good too.

GOOD LUCK HOPE IT GOES WELL FOR YOU

  7. just be yourself and you wil be fine///

  8. well, why do u think people there would make fun of you? they might say or thing something.. well, when you move to an unfamiliar place you'd really feel uneasy.. not comfortable with the people, the place their cultures and maybe even some of their food lolz.. right? but when you get acquainted with the people and all.. i think it would turn out great.. the bad things or any negative expectations is always on your firsts.. why dont u think positive? youill be okay.. :)

  9. I'm sure you'll love Australia & Australia will like you too! There's so much to see & do in NSW. Make sure you bring your winter wardrobe if moving here soon ~ It's Autumn here now/June will be the beginning of winter. Good Luck!

www.shopsafe.com.au should give you some sort of shopping guide to Australia.

  10. Yes it is a big move for you. My guess is it's for love (marriage) or work or family and "NO people will not make fun of you". Australia is very multicultural. We are used to different accents from all over our planet.  That means you are really going to fit in.

You wrote that you are moving to New South Wales, but didn't say if that was the city or out in country. If it's Sydney then you have lots of suburbs to those from. Like any city in the world there are good and bad places to live.

I have been to New York (city) several times and always had a great time. Sydney is not as populated has New York. If you like a bit of trivia, New York's police force has more people working for it than the total number of people working in our Australia's defense force.

Stop worrying about moving to NSW, you are very welcome to come and live here.

Kind and warm regards from Noelene.

  11. Hi there, when are you coming?, as we are heading into winter soon so bring some warm clothes, as it gets very cool in NSW.  People don't make fun of you and if anything, they are more likely to say.......Gee I love your accent, where are you from.

  12. No, Australians wont make fun of you

    We love Americans!

  13. People will be very friendly and adapting. Try and make at least one close friendly quickly, someone you can rely on and to show you the ropes.

No one will make fun of you but we do have a slightly different sense of humour then Americans which may take a little getting used to.

Australians will go out of their way for thier mates and bend backwards for them. You do right by us and we'll do right by you.

NSW is a big place but if by any chance you're moving to Wollongong, send me a email via the link on my profile and I'll help you out. If not be sure to visit the area sometime, it makes a great day trip or a week long holiday.

Welcome to Australia, you're gonna love it here.
