tv as much as I'm attracted to classic actresses from the past. For instance, I find these women absolutely stunning.

  1. No doubt they were very beautiful women, but there are beautiful women around today, too.

Styles change, perhaps you prefer the more formal, practiced style of past eras than the modern 'fresh and natural' look which is so fashionable and popular nowadays.

It's a matter of personal taste, I doubt there's much wrong with you, unless you become obsessed with thinking beauty only existed THEN.

Believing something good is only in the past is a kind of yearning for something which it's impossible to have.

Be careful you don't waste your life wanting the impossible when the possible is right in front of you, and you're too busy looking backwards to see it.

    Cheers :-)

  2. I don't blame you.  Many of the actresses on TV have no figures, no charm, and no personality.

Maybe you should try watching Bollywood movies?  :)

  3. Those women are just that beautiful. It's not like you want to get with them at their current ages.

  4. You know what I feel the same with the older; now dead actors; only to discover as time goes by that every thing improves; that what we now see is the past nurtures us for the better that has come and is to come; beauty never dies.

  5. Classic beauty is timeless.  You could take either of those women and if they were in their prime now, they would still be great beauties.  It sounds like your taste in women is improving and refining itself.  I like Jean Harlow.  Pretty AND funny!

  6. Classic women; American and Western Civ were created with women like that.  There is nothing wrong with you.

  7. These women look young and childish and that is more attractive to men than overly sexed up, adult looking women.

  8. I love the way you have interpreted 'women's studies' in this forum! X

  9. awesome taste!!!

    they were drop dead gorgeous!

  10. I agree. Today's actresses seem to think that the skinnier they are the more beautiful they are, hence we have a Hollywood full of anorexics.

  11. Hubba hubba

  12. They are beautiful women and have a certain mystique, femininity and  elegance that are not often found in modern women.

  13. Hi.  I like your question, and I understand what you're saying.  But I don't think some realize that pictures and movies aren't real life.  None of these actors or actresses from the past or present actually look like they do in pics and movies.  They're often way too skinny in real life so that they can look halfway normal on camera.  Hollywood and everything/one in it is an illusion.  Nothing real about it.

  14. I enjoy the old movies too. In those days, beauty and acting ability was cultivated. Writers and directors were better too. Now it's all how "hot" a person can be with lots of special effects so we can't tell how lousy the storyline is.

To me, modern day male and female models and actors have no figures, behave immaturely, have no acting ability and hate the US. 'Course, in your case, you live in the UK. I don't know if you have any trouble with actors speaking filth about your own country. I find it tasteless and totally unnecessary no matter what country they hail from. That's why I've quit watching new movies.

Today on the news I hear that Hollywood is losing money. Gosh, I wonder why ... [duh]

    Best wishes. ♥ ∞

EDIT: I like what Patois said. She worded it very well. Patois, I'm so sorry to hear you lost your mama. All my parents are dead now. Deepest sympathies. God bless. ♥ ∞

  15. I think Fey nailed it.  Today's beauty is not true beauty but "hotness"...usually overly exposed body and a so-so face.  Beauty back then was actual beauty.  Something that was natural, yet feminine through makeup.

  16. Audrey Hepburn is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. Ingrid Bergman, not so much, but still beautiful. The reason is because they aren't fake. You know what their real faces and bodies look like. With actresses today, it's hard to tell.

  17. I find those images of many of the film beauties from then to be absolutely stunning.  What is most intriguing to me about the crux of your question and our appreciation for those amazing images is the "beauty" was not created by women but by men.  ANYONE, with the proper lighting, shadowing, make-up, air-brushing, etc. can appear to be beautiful.  In hospice, I ran across a volunteer, a professional well-known male photographer who came into dying ladies' homes with a crew for hair styling and make-up and lighting and such and take these amazing images of the ladies, young or old, to brighten their lives.

The male art directors and photographers who created those mid-century images of beauty had a particular artful vision of women, specific to the social consciousness at the time, I think, that contributed to the creation or illusion and made those iconic expressions of women appear so beautiful.  Those images reflect the artists', men mostly, perception of feminine beauty and symmetry, saw the female body in a certain way that is different than how the male-dominated film industry perceives women today.  As the social consciousness changes, so do our expressions of beauty, or lack thereof.

When my mother passed away, my father was frantically shuffling through boxes and boxes of loose snapshots and albums trying to find a photo, any photo, to keep wiith him.  He was crying.  Every single photo that he had ever taken of her had been taken to specifically mock her, make her look stupid, gapping mouth, weird transient look, coming out of bathrooms in public places frowning, etc.  I shuffled through my own boxes of photographs of myself taken by men I had loved, sorted them by flattering and not flattering.  It was quite enlightening.  The unflattering ones were all done by two gentlemen.  The flattering ones had all been taken by two other gentleman.  Beauty is created with a camera by the eye of the beholder, that's for sure.

  18. Yeah, I agree.  And I find the same thing with men.  Gregory Peck!  Mmmmmmmmm.....

  19. Good for you!

  20. Oh, those women had class and classic beauty. Sure, they had torrid personal lives, but they maintained poise in public. I suspect you're just getting older and value classic beauty over trashy beauty.

I, for one, think there has never been a more handsome actor than Gregory Peck.

Edit: Shiprah, I didn't notice your post until after I posted mine. Another fan!

  21. Nope, that's your choice. But realize that by comparing women of today to the women of the past you limit yourself from finding a girlfriend/wife in the here and now. I'm sorry to hear that you're missing the many beautiful women around you because you're comparing them to women who've passed on.

  22. Maybe it's b/c they had a genuine talent and charm to them. Attraction is more than looks. Not to mention that their beauty was more natural.

Actresses today are just airbrushed looks and nothing beyond that.

  23. I like old-fashioned woman are more beautiful, too. Todays society doesn't really focus on beauty but more of "hotness" which is a different thing. One's about being womanly and elegant and sophisticated while the other is about being s**y and lusty. Nothing is wrong with you.
