Question:

This is a conundrum: 2 cylinders long of 15 cm and 1 cm of diameter.(see bottom 4 rest of conundrum)?

Those 2 r exactly the same and r right bside each other. 1 of them is magnetic from both edges... but not the other. They're in a closed room on a wooden table and the only other things r a door and window and nothing else is metallic in the room except both cylinders and my point is how 2 find the mettalic 1!

  1. Is it the metallic one you want, or the magnetic one? You've said they're both metallic so I assume you mean magnetic.

    You could try them both on the door hinges, the magnetic one would stick.

    If neither sticks, the hinges could be brass. In this case, hang them both up with a thread taken from the sash cord in the window. The one that comes to rest at right-angles to the direction of the sun's movement (seen through the window) will be the magnetic one as it will be aligned North-South.
