  1. I signal and then move immediately over to the side to let the emergency vehicle pass. First thing I do is to try to find where they are if it's a siren. It's why I check my rearview mirror periodically because sometimes they don't use a siren.

I know that I see a lot of drivers that either keep driving or get in the way even worse. Nothing seems to happen to them but I'm sure it impacts the people involved in an accident or situation.

  2. Move as far right as possible if it is safe and stop the vehicle you should also put your emergencies flashers on as well.

  3. GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!  easy enough?

  4. It is important to remember that when an emergency vehicle approaches with its lights and sirens on someone is in immediate need of the services that vehicle and its occupants provide. You don't want to cause them delay.

When the lights and sirens are activated pull over to the right and stop- REGARDLESS OF WHAT LANE YOU ARE IN OR WHAT DIRECTION YOU ARE GOING. Do not pull back into traffic until you have looked in all your mirrors and verified that there are no more emergency vehicles coming. It is not uncommon for people to pull over for the first one then pull in front of the second one.

If you are at an intersection, pull to the right if you are able, otherwise remain stopped. Those who drive emergency vehicles are trained on how to safely clear intersections (the most dangerous part of an emergency response) and will take care of it. The vehicle may use the turn lane or drive into oncoming traffic to get around you.

Provided due regard is taken for the safety of others, an emergency vehicle with lights and siren activated, may break nearly all traffic laws. Emergency vehicles are completely unpredictable. You do not know where they will turn, park, stop, or do anything else. Please, pull over and get out of the way.

If you are on a multi lane highway leave at least one lane between you and the vehicle and NEVER drive next to an emergency vehicle with lights and sirens on. Changing lanes to exit the highway very difficult for an emergency vehicle. Please slow down and let them pass.

If you are near an emergency vehicle that does not have their lights and siren on drive as you normally would. Understand that there is a lot going on inside these vehicles. Calls are being dispatched on the radio, information is coming in via computer, and there are likely cell phones or Nextels that are also giving information. Unfortunately, it is easy for the drivers of these vehicles to become distracted, give them extra room. Also, an emergency vehicle may go from non-emergency mode to lights and sirens at any time. Be prepared for this and give yourself room to react.

If the emergecny vehicle is an ambulance traveling with the lights and sirens off and approaching an intersection, understand the if the light suddenly changes from green to red, the ambualnce may run the light. This is because when there is a patient on board a sudden stop may be detrimental to the patiend and could hurt the person in back providing care. Be alert for this.

Driving lights and sirens is EXTREMELY dangerous. Please pull over, stop, and yield the right of way. There is already one emergency going on, don't create a second one.

  5. Get over to the right when it's safe and stop. If you are at a light, don't panic and go into the intersection. Just try to move over to the right and if you can't just sit still. Ambulance drivers are trained to wait and look for a path then proceed. That should not be forcing you out of the way.

btw, If an ambulance doesn't have it's siren on that means it non-emergency and you don't have to move.

  6. move to far right and stop,if this is not possible than stop where you are till emergency vehicle's are past you.then can proceed.

  7. Get out of the way and don't block intersections.

    simple.

  8. Move to the right and stop as soon as possible to allow them to pass.

  9. look completely around you, ensure that it is safe to move out of the way. if so slowly move out of the way.

    Do not panic

Do not feel under pressure and that there is a life waiting on your hands

DO NOT BEEP YOUR HORN (to avoid confusion for everyone)
