Ok so I have not started my period yet, I'm 12, and for the past few months I've had discharge. It started out really pale yellow, then it got deep yellow, and now it's back to pale yellow again! What's happening?

  1. I think it's because you are about to start your period. When I was 11, I started noticing the same thing and a few months later I started. I may be wrong but that's what happened to me.

  2. This should help you decide.

Once you start puberty a white and/or clear, non-foul smelling discharge (mucous) is normal. The v****a is self-cleaning. You will also have your own 'scent' (musky) and it will smell stronger to you than to others. This same discharge increases the closer you get to ovulation and when you are sexually aroused. Trust me, you don't ever want it to go away.

Your normal discharge will dry yellow when exposed to air. If it's coming out yellow, you probably have a vaginal infection.

    Different Types of Discharge:

White: Thick, white discharge is common at the beginning and end of your cycle. Normal white discharge is not accompanied by itching. If itching is present, thick white discharge can indicate a yeast infection.

Clear and stretchy: This is "fertile" mucous and means you are ovulating.

Clear and watery: This occurs at different times of your cycle and can be particularly heavy after exercising.

Yellow or Green: May indicate an infection, especially if thick or clumpy like cottage cheese or has a foul odor.

Brown: May happen right after periods, and is just "cleaning out" your v****a. Old blood looks brown.

    Different types of infections:

    Signs of yeast infections:

    White, cottage cheese-like discharge

Swelling and pain around the v***a

    Intense itching

    Signs of bacterial vaginosis:

A white, gray or yellowish vaginal discharge

A fishy odor that is strongest after s*x or after washing with soap

    Itching or burning

Slight redness and swelling of the v****a or v***a

    Signs of trichomoniasis

A watery, yellowish or greenish bubbly discharge

    An unpleasant odor

    Pain and itching when urinating

    Most apparent after your period

  3. You shouldn't be worried about getting your period at 12.. it will come when your body is mature enough, i didn't get mine until i was over 14 1/2 years old.

when you get brown discharge is usually when you will start your period. this color discharge is normal

  4. Maybe a yeast infection. Do you have itching?

  5. The discharge you are experiencing is typical of girls around your age. Discharge is a good indicator that your uterus and v****a are in working order and are maintaining a proper environment. This discharge usually shows up in females before their menstrual cycles begin. It's a good indicator that soon you will get your first period (within the next year). As long as the discharge doesn't smell odd or out of the ordinary and continues to be pale and like mucus (similar to snot) then everything is ok.
