I am curious, (I am neutral with this topic)

If a 15 year old, according to the american law, is not legally able to consent to s*x, (as she is too young to maturely agree) why is it legal for her to legally keep a child if she is not mature enough to handle the responsibility? I am not trying to offend, I saw something on TV that sparked the question....

Please be respectful in your answers as this is a sensitive issue

  1. Laws regarding the age of consent vary from state to state.

You raise a good point, though.

  2. Just to be sure I understand your question..you're asking if the law presumes a 15 year old is not mature enough to make a decision regarding s*x, then why does the law presume she is capable of caring for a child and let her keep her child.

    Its two different things really.

The laws regarding the age of consent presume that if you are under the age of consent you are unable to understand the full emotional and practical consequences of s*x an therefore cannot consent.

The laws concerning the removal of children and termination of parental rights are different.

They dont just presume someone will be a or neglectful parent. They dont just presume that wont be able to care for the child,  evidence that you cant or wont. Or a complaint made that you arent adequatelycaring for the child.

  3. maybe it's cause once you've had the baby, it's your responsibility. the government doesn't really care about your welfare as long as they're getting theirs and ours
