ok as for being born an american citizen . when i was in 7th grade. someone asked "what if you were born on a ship, at the border line, between america and some other country..well the body of water, obviously not on the place itself aha. and i said "depends what side of the boat you were on" do you think that would really determain it? everyone laughed but i still wounder about that

  1. Well it would probably have to be determined on weather the mother was American or not.  If she was American the child would be American.  If the mother was Cuban or some other ethnicity, I would say that they were not American since the mother never actually touched American soil.  I bet it would make a great court case though.  Have a good evening.


  2. Well, that depends on the Nationality of your parents. If they were American, then you would be American. Look at it this way. Those in the military living overseas have kids. Just because the kid was born in Germany does not make him German.

  3. When boundaries are in question your nationality would revert to that of your parents.

  4. Jim has it right,it would depend on the parents.

  5. Fine.  Your citizenship follows your mother unless there is a mother and a father, and both are listed on an official birth certificate.  In that case, your citizenship can follow your mother or your father.
