my husbands son is 8 and he did some things with another boy in the school bathroom(no penetration) about 3 years ago, which they considered playing. He told his dad the other day what had happened. We have sent him to a psychiatrist to help him through this. We are having problems with how to deal with this ourselves. Has this happened to anyone else? And how did you deal with it?

  1. "Playing doctor ",so to speak, is not too unusual for a 5 year old. If he has not continued the behavior, I don't think you have a big problem.

  2. You are making a big mistake making such a big thing out of nothing. The boy was 5 years old for heavens sakes. This is normal for a 5 year old. They are curious. It is not sexual. When I caught my 5 year old daughter with her pants down playing with the 5 year old boy from next door with his pants down, they were on our front porch and I just came out the side door and yelled to them to come help me wheel the garbage cans in. They pulled their pants up quickly and came running. My daughter is 38 now and I can assure you that she has no sexual hang ups.  Stop staying away from him. You are punishing him for nothing.

  3. i agree with Marcia F... he was only 5 and kids are curious, & you said it yourself, they considered it as playing... it wasn't sexual, maybe talking to him and explaining to him that he shouldn't play that way, but it seems like he's being punished for something he did innocently 3years ago.

  4. I think it is great that you have taken your step son to a psychiatrist, but I think you and your husband would benefit from therapy too, they can help you deal with it so you can be there for him.
