“This is a victory for everyone who threw the pitch,” says R.A. Dickey
R.A. Dickey certainly proved his valour this year as he won Cy Young Award to become the first knuckleballer to win this prestigious honour.
This award was also special for 38-year-old ageless prodigy as he becomes the third player in the New York Mets to win it in style.
The National League Cy Young Award added joy for Dickey, who has also won numerous league awards this year.
He was given the All-Star Game cap for the first time in his illustrious Major League Baseball career. For his brilliant pitching, he has also named National League Strikeout Champion and National League Shutouts Champion.
“This is a victory for everyone who threw the pitch, This is an honor to be shared, There have been countless people that poured into me … and this is a victory for all of us.” Dickey said on a conference call after getting the award.
Dickey added, “I feel good about being a Met, I do, That might be my youthful optimism because I also understand as a veteran and someone who’s played for a while, it’s part of the business of baseball. But I’m fairly confident … I can’t put a percentage on it, but I can certainly say I believe the Mets are going to be a lot better."
The Los Angeles Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw secured the runner up spot while other two Mets’ who won this award are Tom Seaver and Dwight Gooden.
Dickey finished this past Major League Baseball season with 2.73 ERA along with 20-6 win-loss and 230 strike-outs.
Throughout the season, he remained consistent and always played his best game and literally earned this award.
Earlier many experts believe that Clayton Kershaw will easily win this year’s Cy Young but lately it has been proven that Dickey was the best pitcher in the entire National League.
On the other hand, with all this success and appreciation, Dickey is a free agent and has yet to sign a new contract with the New York Mets.
The next few weeks will be critical when his future will be decided for the next Major League seasons.
