i live in Florida and i was wondering why they took the mickey hand down from the epcot spaceship earth (the big dome that looks like a golf ball) .. plz i would like to know... i liked it

It was a special thing to celebrate the year 2000. at least that was the case 8 years ago lol

The wand was HORRIBLE!  Spaceship earth is about human achievement, and it is supposed to magnificent, and awesome.

The wand made it look cartoony and silly.  

They took it down because Siemens the new sponsor also hated it.

The hand was built in celebration of the year 2000. At the top of the structure was a large cut out of the number 2000. While the structure wasn't technically meant to be permanent, it was unclear as to how long the structure was to be used. After the Millennium Celebration ended, the structure was left standing; the reason why remains unclear, some claim financial issues, another rumor is that it was used for marketing purposes, just two of the many rumors that circulated during the existance of the hand.

Whatever the reason in 2001, the number 2000 was replaced with the word "Epcot". On the morning of July 5, 2007, after years of speculation and two days after my birthday in disney, it was officially announced by Epcot Vice President Jim MacPhee that Spaceship Earth would be restored to its original appearance and that the "magic wand" would be removed in time for the park's 25th anniversary on October 1st. I miss the hand though :(

I went there last year and spaceship earth was closed down again. they said they were making a different ride in it

They took it down because it was an eye-sore.

It was nice for the year 2000, but after that it was just garbage.  EPCOT's symbol is supposed to be the sphere, not a giant wand on the sphere.
