in yahoo chess most people have ball before their rating and some have star. what does star and ball mean?

Ball before their rating or a ''square''?

I think what you mean it's a square because there is no ball.

A blue Star before their rating means they have participated in chess tournaments in yahoo, which is paid.

A square is just simply a showing the stage they are:

if the square is red = means they have 2100+ rating

orange = 1800-2099

purple = 1500 - 1799

blue = 1200 - 1499

green = all ratings below 1200
