i saw this add on horsetopia. I think it is so cruel to ride a horse this size not to mention jump it or canter it!!! She even wants to sell it now for a machine -ATV but whatever- even though she has already probably ruined it!

I know mini's are supposed to be strong but i just dont think that is right.

please comment.

  1. mlooks ok to me.  The rider is almost to big but, The horse wouldn't  perform the tasks mentioned if the rider was too big.

  2. I think the girl is a tad large for the mini horse but I dont think it is cruel to ride the horse or to jump him. Horses are strong and minis are much stronger than you think

  3. no i agree shes too tall deffenitaly... but no i use mini in lesson program for 3-4 year olds.... i dont put any one over the 70lbs limit but for little kids just learning.. they feel safer for there first couple of lessons....  my mini jumps but never under saddle.... but she does canter....

  4. I've been to many horse shows and i always see a rider looking much to big for there pony .

  5. you didnt post any ads?

also, i know a few minis.. they love being ridden and running/jumping ect. its not like you can put a 150lb person on them, but they will easily take a 70/80lb person.

  6. omg that is cruel!!!!!! you are NOT supposed to ride them. not even babies!!!!

  7. seems like that girl will squish him

  8. its cruel for her,for like a 5-7 year old no,but anyone over like 50lbs is just too big.

  9. It does look a bit bizzare, however saying that, do you guys realize that the Shetland pony was bred and raised not only to carry good sized loads, but also to carry an adult?

I have a friend who breeds and raises registered Shetlands and they aren't that much bigger than some minis I've seen.

The problem with letting small children train ponies or minis undersaddle is that they don't have the strength or the knowledge to school a young one.

I know, it sounds HARSH but as a kid were you ever run off with or bucked off a pourly trained pony/mini?

  10. Your right.  Your not supposed to ride minnis at all their backs are not strong enough to hold more 20 -30 pounds.  I think that girl weights more than that.

  11. it is wrong, a lot of people thinks of minis as like ponies - a pony can carry an adult fine, but minis are not meant to carry that much weight on their back, they are bred for pulling adults in carts! I think the mini should be ok with it seeing as the child looks light, but i wouldn't recommend it! :(

  12. That's disgusting! What are they thinking? Poor lil guy.

  13. looking... not seeing...

Edit: Umm... I think the horse can manage it. I was thinking you would show an obese person or something...

  14. that is cruel,,but my uncle has a mini horse and we lead around but there no more than 35lbs. and they dont ride him but maybe 2 mins max

  15. That's ridiculous, that girl should be riding something much bigger, and she certainly shouldn't be jumping the poor little guy.

  16. wow... that is harsh... it looks like the horses eyes r about to pop out of it's head... i bet it's glad its being sold...

  17. OH the poor pony, he doesn't look uncomfortable but how could he not! I think mini pony's should only be ridden by toddlers-7 yrs. The girl looks so awkward and the poor thing has to carry her over a jump! That's outrageous!

  18. how tall was the horse? it depends on how big the person that rode her was

  19. absolutely awful

that saddle is far too big too!

    some people have no respect.

  20. She is WAY too big. She will ruin his back. poor guy

  21. Wow, I think it looks really awkward more than anything...might as well throw a saddle on a dog and go riding instead...

  22. Oh. I think minis should only carry little kids, but he doesn't seem to mind it... it could really wreck his back though

  23. That is quite horrible...poor little guy...unfortunately some stupid people dont realize how hard it is on these horses to carry around their huge children when have long out grown their ''little doll'' ponies as she says in the ad.....Jeesh!!

  24. It's not cruel. My cousin rode (cantered and jumped) minis when she was 5'. not to be mean, just saying

  25. That girl is way to big for him. Poor guy.

Mini's are very strong for their size. But there is a limit to what they can do just like any other horse.

I have mini's that I let my neices a nephews ride. But, I keep the weight limits at 50 lbs or less. If they kid gets to big they move up to the shetland or welsh cross we have.

  26. There's a reason that show rules (for mini's) limit the size of the children riding them !   That girl needs her rear end kicked off that mini and her asshat father should just be kicked for allowing that!  Clearly the 20% rule is violated here.

I pity the poor mini, barring a miracle it will likely go to another oversized asshat.

  27. well i dont think a girl that big should be riding her the girl looks like she is in 4th or 5th grade

a kindergardner should be riding her poor thing

  28. i have to admit it does look like that would be bad for the pony's back, but although it is a pretty stocky mini. maybe that is why they are selling it though, they may have realised (maybe a lil late) that the child has outgrown it and thought it was time to moove it on.

i know some people are sayin its cruel and disgusting and stuff but it would be best to hear the facts from the owner before immediately jumping to conclusions (however convincing the evidence looks).

they might take offence if they find out that thir advert has been posted without their permission and being dissed and it might actually cause them problems with not being able to sell it if people see what some people have written, and then it would have to keep being ridden by that girl.

the other day i asked a question about breeding my filly in a few years and what names to name the foal and i got a response calling me a backyard breeder and someone immediately came to the conclusion i bred horses all the time and sent them to the meatworks, calling me inexperienced and making nasty comments about what i should name my "future foal" and thats just not on.

just my opinion - but i do think the girl is too big for that pony.

  29. i've seen people ride pones

    like Iceland Pony or Fjord

but they were always like 12- 13 hh

and stocky and there is a very big deference between them bigger type pones and a mini first off

that pony is NOT bred for riding

    thy ARE for little buggies

specking of cruel have you hurd of this Pregnant Mares Urine (PMU)

it's The largest source of female hormone replacement therapy (HRT) medications comes from pregnant mares urine
