In an ideal scenario, if a company has laid out the organizational objectives very clearly and has clear strategies for achieving those objectives, there is no need to identify the controls and implement them in carrying out the strategies. Do you agree with this statement?

  1. Absolutely not.  You need control points to ensure the strategy is working.  Organizational objectives and strategies are always open to interpretation.  It is the control points that alert early on the effectiveness of the plan, and keep the company on track.  (retired IBM exec mgr/consultant/done strategies for many companies and many levels of government)

  2. Disagree.  Objectives are what you want to be or accomplish.  Strategies are broad methods to accomplish objectives.  Tactics are the step-by-step things you do when implementing strategies.  CONTROLS are those points in the tactical process where you take measurements to ensure the process is working as intended.  With controls, you are out-of-control (ha ha) but seriously if you don't make sure the tactical process is working right then the objective will not be accomplished.
