Do you deem it would be a bad idea for me to get small tattoos on both of my ankles? Actually, these tattoos would be on the inside of my legs, in either black or brown font. I would like to get 'Grandma Millie' on the right, and 'Uncle Darrel' on the left. I never met either of them, but I would still like to feel there is more of a closeness between us.

I liked the idea of having this done in those locations because my mom has scars there due to intravenous injections she had to receive when she was ill at six months old. I told her the other day I would take them from her if I could, because she thinks they're unattractive. Also, I was curious about how this would appear. What do you think?

  1. if you get it in brown, it would be very subtle.

my rule of thumb for tattoos is...once you settle on an idea, wait at least 6 months to 1 year to get it. the idea won't go away...but in that time, if you change your mind, it will be good that you didn't get the tattoos. if you still want the same tattoo idea after that time, you know you have an idea that you sincerely like, and you should go for it. don't rush into a tattoo...they are forever.

  2. it's really up to you if you want to put their names on you.  if what ever closeness you feel to someone you never met is strong enough to warrant a tatoo homage to them then by all means get it done.

the ankle is a good place bse they are easily covered/hidden if needed. i'm sure it will turn out fine if done by a good artist...

personally i wouldn't tattoo names of ppl that i had never met nor had a connection to.

it's like if i wanted to tattoo my grandmothers name (never met the woman) on myself just bcse i had nothing else to pick as a tattoo

she was everything to my mom, but nothing to me ya know

there is no impact on my life from this person to warrant doing it.

  3. I wouldn't recommend putting ANYONE's name on your body.  tattoo's are great for the right reason, but names uh-uh

  4. I think getting the names of people you have never met is not a v good idea. But if you insist on having them, then I think they will look fine there . I have a lot of tattoos and I thought really long and hard about each one, because you cant get rid of them once there there.

  5. I think its a great idea and that its great that you want t make your mom feel good. You should get that.

  6. I would pass on that tattoo considering you never met these people.

If you feel the need to get "scars" on your ankles as a nod to your mom then why don't you get tattoos of the scars that she has.

  7. Since you never met these people I feel it would be odd to tattoo their names on you Why not tattoo your moms name or find something to represent your mom? good luck

  8. I'm not a huge fan of the idea. I personally would never get a name of anyone tattooed on me, whether I've met them or not. I do plan on getting a memorial tattoo for my grandmother that passed away - a yellow rose, because that was her favorite. If you insist on getting a tattoo for these people, why don't you come up with a symbol to represent them both? A dove, or maybe a flower? Ask your mom what might work. This way you know what the tattoo stands for, and it's an indirect representation.

  9. I think it might look a little weird on the inside of your legs, depending on how big the writing is. Your ankles or wrists are a much nicer place to have a tattoo. Getting a tattoo is a big decision and you have to be 100% sure this is what you really want, especially since you've never met Grandma Millie or Uncle Darrel before. It's very sweet that you want to do this for your mom but you have to consider your own feelings as well.

  10. i have 5 grateful dead bears circling my left ankle, i think it's a good place for something that can go around the leg. just make sure that the tattoo has meaning to you, if it does then go for it.
