this is first time we r travelling by Amtrak with 4 yrs boy and 8 month baby.we r not able to get sleep liner as they don't have it so we r travelling in regular coach service.anyone have experienced how was it?how was their food ,service allover.

I travelled via Amtrak with a 1yr old.  However, I did have a sleeper.  The food was excellent.  The service was fabulous.  They did everything they could to make sure all of our needs were met.

I've been traveling by Amtrak for over 10 years now. My first trip, I traveled by coach. The seats were comfortable, with much more leg room than you would find on a plane or bus. However, I found it difficult to sleep at night. There was simply not enough room. Every trip since then, I have taken the sleeping car and it was a very pleasant experience, slept well and had a private car during the day to play games, rest, or whatever I wanted. The meals were good, but not great. keep in mind all the meals are pre-cooked and simply re-heated for train travelers. You may want to consider bringing snacks to supplement the food available on board. I found the service generally good, but there were a few times when the employees had bad attitudes and did not seem to care. But, I guess you get that everywhere. Expect delays on your trip, as Amtrak shares the tracks with freight trains. They often have to wait for trains to pass. It is not unusual to be several hours late on a day long train trip.

serivce is marginal and food is like Mc Donalds. not a good experience.
