okay, i have this huge competition coming up, and we have to portray a character. my coach and i agreed on pochahontas, with the song colors of the wind. i really need some ideas on how to portray the character realistically. like makeup, hair, and all that fun stuff. any creative ideas?

  1. I would suggest a brown dress probably something that would look like Indian attire. I would put your hair in braids and wear some light makeup, maybe some cheek rouse, lip gloss, maybe some eye makeup and mascara. I would have fun with it, but don't go too far overboard. Good luck!

  2. I would research her first.  Watch Disney's "Pocahontas," maybe watch clips of "Dances With Wolves" for realistic costume ideas and read up a little on her.  It may give you some insight into her personality, which may lend itself well to interpretation on ice.  Maybe even check youtube.com for Michelle Kwan's Pochahontas program.

As for your costume, I would probably do a pretty braid and add some feathers and a headband.  Add a flower or two to show her connection with nature.  Maybe check online for a cute "Indian-looking" costume (buycostumes.com) that you can alter a little to work for skating.  As for makeup, I believe most things regarding her that I have seen do not show her wearing any makeup.  Wear a beaded arm band or anklets.

  3. Here are some "visuals" of others who have skated to Pocahontas, if that would help some.

This dress came in my search

It may look funky, but it probably looks cool on the ice, especially under spotlight.

More than the costume, sell your program with body and facial expressions and of course your skating . . . really believe you are Pocahontas on ice and your audience will believe it too!!  Good luck!

  4. wear a leathery looking dress, have your hair done into tight braids, paint your face, and wear some jewelery that won't effect your program

  5. Go to a person who sew dresses and show her what kind of ideas you want and I was wondering what jumps are you working on?

    P.S I am a figure skater too.
