This is for all you theater lovers out there!?

I haven't seen the tape of Guys and Dolls Yet and probably won't get ahold of a copy before auditions. Are there any songs from the show that would suit a high soprano//mezzo soprano well? How for about Bye bye birdie? (my audition for that is next week!). Nothing too complicated, I'm only fourteen and my voice isn't at its full potential yet (although I've been in lessons since i was five). If not a song from those two shows, can anyone suggest a different show tune that would suit a high soprano//mezzo soprano from a different show that is pretty well known? Im getting sick of using "My Favorite Things!" Thank you!

  1. hi. :) these shouldn't be too difficult, especially considering the experience that you have.

    from guys and dolls:

    "take back your mink"

    "if i were a bell"

    "adelaide's lament"

    "a bushel and a peck"

    from bye bye birdie:

"how lovely to be a woman"

"what did i ever see in him"

    "one boy"

    from other shows:

"hello young lovers" the king and i.

"lord and master" the king and i.

"just around the river bend" pocohontas.

"there are worse things i could do" grease.

"i speak six languages" 25th annual putnam county spelling me.

    "popular" wicked.

"i can hear the bells" hairspray.

"i have dreamed" the king and i.

"i could have danced all night" my fair lady.

"greenfinch and linnet bird" sweeny todd.

ah, i have so many. don't be afraid to ask for more. yes, some of them are over sung, but if you have more experience than the people your age (which you obviously do) you'll blow people away. :D

  2. Well, are you sure that you want to sing from the shows for your audition? For Bye Bye Birdie I would recommend How Lovely To Be a Woman and A Lot Of Livin' to Do. In general though, if you're really serious about theater I would definitely recommend expanding your rep. Ask your voice teacher for recommendations.

  3. Adelaide's Lament, from Guys and Dolls.  Adelaide is the main girl in G&D.  Her voice is high and kind of nasal

  4. I would recommend looking for a copy of any of the four volumes of the Musical Theater Singer's Anthology in the voice part you feel most comfortable with (it comes in four volumes in Soprano and Belter/Mezzo Soprano). That way you have a wide variety of songs.
