  1. well, you're not a soldier when you join....

you are shaped into a soldier

  2. Yes!

    Its called the Sand Pit!

Your personnel trainer is your Drill Instructor

  3. Youll get in pretty good cardiovascular shape and will have good endurance.

But you will not necessarily build high performance muscle, in fact I can all but promise you will lose muscle.

Poor diet, ultra high stress, long hours, insufficient sleep.

Its not a good recipe for building anything.

Think about it like this, you will be a reliable work pickup

But you will not be sportscar, sportscars are useless in war.

Thats the best way to explain military fitness.

  4. CORPS

    ...

    sad sad sad

  5. lmao to the first answer. not core, corps.

  6. to echo everyone else it's Corps...and you'll lose weight and muscle mass in boot camp.  You'll gain it back on base.  Muscle mass is up to you.  You will do your normal PT which won't help build mass but it will help keep you in shape.  If you want to bulk up you'll have the opportunity to do it on your own time.  SemperFit!!! as well as Semper Fi! wink...wink..

Oh and BTW to the idiot NVE whatever...yes the guy who answered below you is correct Marines aren't soliders and aren't referred to as soliders we are referred to as Marines.  Only the Army is referred to as soliders.  That's why a good news reporter will say Soliders and Marines.  Quit being such a smart A** and you could learn something.

  7. I hope the marines are more interested in teaching you how to defend the country.....I sincerely hope our tax dollars go to that and not hiring nutritionists to get the soldiers in shape.   Maybe I'm just getting too old.

Tim (poster below)....Marines aren't considered soldiers?  Hmm.  Learn something every day, I guess.

  8. The Marine Corps doesn't involve their training in developing bulk muscles.  But yes, their are personal trainers and nutritionist that are available, but are not required.  They are not affiliated with Marines whatsoever.  But be advised that the Marine Corps already has a fitness program...PT everyday, and is very strict on what you eat!  They regulate your portions, limited restrictions on what you desire on your meal!

However, I have seen the biggest muscle-bounding recruits and Force Recon candidates get bumped out and sent back home/original unit.  There are two types of 'strength' that exists in the Marine Corps.  Mostly the big guys end up being finished last.  They may be able to bench press me 100 times, but they cannot do even 20 pullups, nor carry a medium machinegun on a 40-mile hump or 8000-meter swim!  It is the average, lean, instilled toughness of the Marines that pass the finish line.

Mostly, the muscle that the Marines will build is the muscle in your head.  They gotta have a smart Marine!  The good thing is that every Marine base will have a fitness gym with all sorts of weight-lifting equipment.

NOTE:  Like everyone corrected...it is "Corps" not 'Core', although pronounced the same.  "Corps" is from latin 'corpus' for "body, or a group".  Marine means -in relation to the sea....latin 'mare'.  Or in Spanish "Mar" for sea, ocean.

Thus Marine Corps means a "a group, or body that is related, or in conjunction to the sea".  Marines are amphibious by nature!

  9. yeah. 1 of d perks 4 bei in U.S. Military

  10. Hey ACE- get it right, Marines are MARINES not "soldiers".

    As for the question.

1- You really gotta learn to spell CORPS properly.

2- Nice Gyms? That depends on what your definition of "nice" is. We don't need pretty looking things to make us feel better. We make do and are grateful for every piece of equipment in proper working order we receive!

3- Yes, they have personal trainers and nutritionist. Not in the Corps, but are civilians that work at some of the gyms.

  11. I thought I was going to starve to death in boot camp, and the "trainers" spit in my face, but they have a lot of gyms for you. Go to Okinawa, the only thing there to do is drink or workout. I drank a lot, myself.

Bravado, you're right on, and anvedukat, Marines are not soldiers. Soldiers are everybody but Marines.

And Pentacott, gotta love the pitt! And burying sandfleas!
