Where I live, I can only receive digital TV via satellite...we have freeview from Sky. I want to buy a new TV...the problem is that I can at present only record the programme I am watching, and I want to watch one whilst recording another....If I get a recorder with a twin tuner, can I connect it to the sky box...and will that enable me to do what I want? Don't say, Get a Sky Box...because I have tried that..and you can only get one of them when you susbscribe monthly..and I don't. Thanks for your advice...I can put an edit on if you need more information.

  1. The only way to do it buy a sky + box.

  2. buy a TV with free-view built in and record to your recorder, you can watch the channel from your TV whilst recording to your hard drive from your recorder.

  3. hasicit is wrong, unfortunately - that won't work if you can't get Freeview. El cid's solution sounds like a good one though.

  4. get one with a twin tuner.

then get a freeview box with hard drive .run along side sky box.

  5. If you are not particularly attached to Sky only contents, you can get Freeview via free-to-air satellite, and have at the same time, a receiver with twin (or more) tuners. Like Sky, the channels are transmitted by satellite, only in this case, you don't need a subscription. Besides, you can get many more channels, mostly from overseas - Spanish, French, German, Korean, Thai, Chinese, etc.

What you need is a twin-tuner PVR such as the excellent Eycos 55.12 with a hard drive, or one of the recent Humax models. Then you need to swap your Sky dish for a 80cm satellite dish, align it to Astra 2, and away you go! No need to mess about with subs. Visit this site for more info: http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/channels.h... and http://www.uk-satellite-tv.co.uk/freesat...

You could try using your existing Sky dish which is, I think, about 50cm. You may get good signal strength and quality, but you may not. I think there is something about it on the Satcure site. It's a case of suck-it-and-see. But with a 80cm dish and a good LNB and alignment, you are sure to get a good signal. Some people go for 120cm dish, just to make sure. A bit more investment will reward you with less hassle viewing in future.

  6. look on ebay they sometimes do stuff like dat
