I am finally going to a French hairdresser to get my tresses cut. Skyblue I will be using the phrases you gave me( all totally appropriate) as my daughter and two sons are coming to have theirs cut too. Are we doing the right thing, yes, of course we are. Wish us luck!!

  1. Depends what kind of hair cut you want for yourself and the kids. The hairdresser may speak some English; and they won't mind sign language, I hope :-)

    Now, here are a few phrases below that may help:

    (I assume you don't need phonetic transcription).

    Bonjour, je voudrais une coupe pour moi et les enfants.

    Hello, I would like a hair cut for me and the children.

    Just trim the hair, please.

    Juste rafraîchir la coupe, s'il vous plaît.

    Short: court

    Not too short : pas trop court

    Ears: oreilles

    Shorter: plus court

    Long: long (that one is easy :-) brushing, shampoo are the same too.

    A fringe: une frange

    Square: Carré

    What do you suggest: qu'est-ce que vous pensez?

    Show me a picture: montrez-moi une photo.

    Conditioner: traitement.

    Too hot: trop chaud

    Too cold: trop froid

    Blonde: blond

    Red: roux

    Brunette: brune

    Mêches: highlights

    Straight: raide, lisse

    Curly: bouclé
