  1. First it's an impossible question to answer.  A heavy person will use more calories than a light person in one step.  Is it uphill, downhill, running, walking?  Most calories are burnt in the process of breathing, digestion and other bodily processes, exercise can trigger all of these to different levels.  Calorie counts are averages at the best of times, too much focus on them is pointless.

Tennis is a good workout, but how good will depend how hard you play.  A casual knock about is not going to be as good a workout as a hard competitive match.

To get rid of the fat on your hips you are going to need to use a combination of exercise and diet control.

I would recommend to start with a good bodyweight routine followed by some high intensity cardio.  Should take no more than 45 minutes, three times a week and will put your body into regeneration mode which will burn fat very efficiently.

Next look at what you are eating and do some food switching so that you are eating healthily.  This will stop you putting on fat and allow your body to burn off what you have with the exercise.

Links below are what I recommend to my members.  Yes they have a cost, but if you consider how much time and money you will save on pointless diet programmes then you'll realise just how good value they are.
