This is my first time owning a pool. What is the ideal pressure for my pump? I've had one pool pro tell me

10- 15 psi and another tell me that 15-20 is o.k. too. My pump generally runs between 18 - 20 psi.

  1. Every set up is different. You can have two identical pools, identical equipment but if there is a slight difference in the length  of the plumbing run or number of 90 degree plumbing elbows, you'll have different pressures for example The same holds true for differences in grade or equipment type too, so you see...there is no "ideal pressure" set in stone for all pools.

    YOUR pressure, for YOUR pool, is what the gauge reads after a filter and basket cleaning. That's ideal. When it rises 5-8 PSI over that, then it's time for the filter to be cleaned. When it drops 5-8, check your baskets.

    I've seen filters run anywhere from 3 PSI to 30 and those pressures are normal for THAT pool.
