Question:

This is my third and I feel as though I don't know anything!?

I'm 31 weeks pregnant with my third. My first 2 were with my first husband, both boys and both very fast labors (6 hours with my first, best estimate 4 hours with my second) My questions is with my third should I expect the same even though I have a different husband and this ones a girl? I worry that I won't get to the hospital in time with this one, yet my husband keeps teasing me that since this is his "DNA" that she'll be a month late like he was. Is this true? I'm already scared enough since my last labor I didn't even know I was in labor until my friend made me go to the hospital because she thought I wasn't "myself" and it turned out I was already dilated to 9 cm. Does the difference in DNA and the fact that she's a girl have any impact on what I should expect my labor to be like?

  1. NO...it doesn't make a difference!!  I have 3 boys (the oldest has a different father) and they were all pretty much the same.  There should be no difference for a girl.  There is nothing noted where girls are more likely to be premature or late vs boys.  Congrats on your 3rd child...and the fact that it's a GIRL!!!  And I must say...don't ever "EXPECT" anything....my first was born 2 weeks late, the 2nd on his due date, and the 3rd....5 weeks early!!  When you think you've got it all figured out....she'll surprise you!!! Good luck, and again, Congratulations!!!

  2. Wow me and you are ALOT alike i'm due sept. 26th. with my 3rd. It's a boy and my other 2 are boys to but my other 2 are from my 1st husband just like you. So i have been wondering about this too...The fact that it's a girl will NOT impact anything but my doctor told me the fact it's a diff daddy might. She might have a bigger head ect.... But he told me since this is my 3rd not to worry it should all be fine. Since my body has already had 2 the 3rd should not be impacted much but size diff.

o and the month late won't happen....they won't let you go over 2 weeks late

  3. The rate of growth of the baby and point at which your body knows it is ready to come out may or may not be hereditary (heredity is in the DNA), either way all pregnancies are different, even for the same mom with the same guy so this one may be different or may be just like your others. No one can predict this, not you, not your doctors, and not your husband who says it's in his DNA!

  4. Every pregnancy is different. your husbands DNA and babys gender doesn't impact your labor. If you expect another fast labor you should invest in a emergency delivery kit. You can either buy one at www.galls.com or make one. Have supplies on hand like old towels, a cheap shower curtain(to protect surfaces) warm blanket etc. I had a very fast labor with my third. I nearly delivered in the car. For me baby#1 was born on his due date, baby #2 was a girl and 9 days early, baby #3 was a boy and 4 days late, labor was 3 hours tops. My kids have the same daddy but each birth was a different experience. If you are at home and don't think you can make it to the hospital in time stay put and call 911. It'll be ok. your husband is probably just nervous and teasing/joking is his way to blow off the nerves. congrats!

  5. Your labor has nothing to do with his DNA. The size and appearance of the baby will be different, that is it.
