Question:

This is not really a question but who thinks dropping a cigarette on a peice of paper will set it in on fire?

just curious i did the test six different times to prove a point to my friend and i did the test in different conditions each time

  1. I haven't tried it and don't intend to;  but you asked about what we thought and what I think is that a flat piece of paper will not ignite, but depending upon the kind of paper, I think a crumpled sheet might well do so.

  3. i highly doubt that it would do anything but burn a hole through it, unless there is an accelerant on it.

IF the paper is very dry and IF the wind is blowing just so and IF (as was mentioned before) there is an accelerant  of some kind, it IS possible...people smoking in bed have burned down their houses when their lit cigarette fell out of their sleeping fingers, no?  Cigarettes thrown from passing cars have started grass fires in some conditions as well, yes? So I think there are conditions where a lit cigarette could start a fire on a paper. You can fill up your car with gas while smoking a lot of times, but one time it might not work out so well. Best to follow Smokey the Bears' advice..."Be kind, Rewind." (Okay, well...that's good advice too...)
