I am going this year for singing, and i had a few questions about what the camp is like.

1. What do people do for the talent show?

2. Is it more fun to take a minor, or not?

3. How much time is there to just hang with people?

4. Are the counselers really stricks about short shorts?

5. What are some other things i should know about the camp, or tips to make it the best experience it can be?

I LOVE Blue Lake! I was just there last week for session 1, and it was my fourth time going to Blue Lake.

1. A bunch of random things. This year there was a piano player, 4 guys that did a hilarious dance, a guy ballet dancer, a girl that juggled fake knives, some singers, a band, and more cool things. The talent show doesn't just have to be a talent in your major, it can be any talent. Last year, one of the counselors solved a Rubix cube in like 20 seconds. He didn't do it this year, but he's at camp again as a counselor.

2. My first year, I did not take a minor (they were called electives back then). My second year, I took the dance minor, and my third year I took the art minor. This year I didn't take a minor and I liked it because I had more free time to shower, hang out in my cabin, write letters, read, or hang out in main camp. It depends on the minor that you're taking.

3. There's plenty of free time during the day, but it depends on your major. I went for band/flute, and we had a 1 hour break in the morning, and then I had a 1 hour break after lunch because I didn't take a minor (you go to your minor after lunch). Then everyone has a rec period break before dinner and that's like an hour and 15 minutes.

4. It depends on the counselor. As the years have passed, the Blue Lake staff has become less and less strict about the uniform. I didn't really wear short shorts this year, but last year that was like all I wore and I didn't get in trouble.

5. Too many to name. Hmm...... You should bring more than 1 towel because the towels get dirty. Your feet get really dirty too, so I bring baby wipes for my feet. And you should bring double the amount of socks that you need, because socks get dirty there too, and I usually go through 2 pairs of socks per day. Bring a twin sized sheet to put over the mattress on the bed because the mattresses are gross. Bring TONS of bugspray, there were lots of mosquitos this year. In my opinion, the tap water there is amazing. Most people hate the tap water because it smells and tastes like eggs. If you are worried about this, you should bring watter bottles. Don't be afraid to overpack.
