This is random, but why do guys wear underwear under their bathing suit?

Some people think that they will have extra protection I guess. I don't wear underwear when I wear bicycle shorts. I don't go swimming at all so I can't answer about bathing suits.

My brother says that it is uncomfortable and irrritating w/o them.

I have never heard of that. My son does not wear underwaear w/his swim suit.

You're right, they do do this. I'd venture to guess it's so that you "see" less when the bathing suit is wet, like an extra layer, or it's because they like wearing their suits too big so they need something underneath just in case. But I'm a parent, not a boy of that age, so what the heck do I know! Nothing, right, us parents know absolutely nothing! LOL.

ive never heard of that. Most bathing suits (especially the short type boardies ect) usually come with an underpants like section stitched into them.

If some guys do do this its for modesty, probably worried that they may flash.

It depends on the swimsuit they wear.  Some suits are just a tad too loose, and the underwear gives you security that you won't be standing there naked after the wave tosses you around.  Some suits are too light-colored, like white and some yellows, and when they get wet, you might as well not be wearing anything.   Also, some swimsuits come in with a lining like underwear, so it's not necessary in those cases.

I personally have never seen this.  I would think it would be a little uncomfortable.
