I'm going there for two weeks and staying with a host family, with a group of kids from my school. It will be in Southern Germany Munik (Muenchen) and Ulm. I'm trying to figure out what would be a cool souvenir or gift to bring home. So far I want to buy some German Magazines, but I need more suggestions. If you could help I'd be much obliged.

  1. The main thing is, you don´t buy anything in a souvenir shop! Everything you can buy there is definiteley not german! (I know it, because I am german) Especially because you will go to Munich. There is one thing you should know: Bavarian people also are NOT typical German! I would buy clothes (very cheap), food (but no Weißwurst or Sauerkraut, noone eats things like that, they are disgusting), music (but no folk-music, because only people over 50 listen to it, but german charts are fairly good), practical things, nothing you can put on your cupboard, because you´ll throw it away very soon. Most things you could buy in a souvenir shop are from China or somewhere, where it can be produced very cheap, so take care :-)

  2. Chocolate is always a popular treat. You can buy all sorts of cholates and other sweets at Aldi in Germany for next to nothing. Otherwise, a cd with German music might be interesting. "Wir sind Helden" is very popular at the moment and quite good. I always bring back food and drink so people can taste some of the culture.

  3. Milkaschokolade(the purple cow), Kinderschokolade, Kindereggs(kids love those),Maggi and Knorr spice mixes, Sauerbrateen spice mix, Oblaten.Postcards,Snowglobes,Lederhosen, german audiotapes

  4. If you see rocks or semi precious stones, check to see where they are from.  I was looking at some beautiful stone necklaces only to find that they were from Arizona.  Ha!
