Now you all know I'm not a basketball fan unless the Pistons make it to the finals lol... (Yes, I'm a bandwagon Pistons fan) but I was watching the celebrations the Celtics had after winning, and I was thinking, the Stanley Cup celebration was so much better, so much more passion involved...

You guys know what I'm talking about right?

Who were you the happiest for when they first lifted the Cup?

  1. I agree, I have to say Dallas Drake.  1st time winner and long time quality guy and player.  Congrats!!!  DALLAS YOU EARNED IT!!!!

  2. Dallas Drake, he waited that long 16 years, startd as a wing and now won the cup as a wing, good for him

  3. I know what you mean! The last few seconds of the game are SO intense and then when the Wings won you can't help feeling this hugely wonderful feeling! It's like you said: there is passion and there is also that feeling of winning something that means a lot to the players and to the fans as well.

I was happy for everyone but I can agree with people on maybe being the happiest for Dallas Drake! :) I was sooo happy though at the time that I was almost equally happy for any Wings player holding the cup up in triumph! Man, I was so happy that night I was about to cry lol

Oh  but at the same time I can also agree with Howler's Paradise about Raymond Bourque....!!

  4. it is only interesting celebration is hockey

baseball is too much hugging, soccer they just lay on the ground and yell, basketball they just jump up and down

in hockey, it is like a choreographed (pre set up) celebration

  5. WOW I'm surprised no one said this yet!!!

    #77 Ray Bourque(SP?)

Not a fan of the AVS but to see one of the greatest defenseman and hockey players of all time get to raise that cup did make me cry.

Gary Throne said it best in that game 7 against NJ When Joe Sakic elected to let #77 raise the cup first: "After 22 years, RAYMOND BOURQUE"!!!!!

It seemed that he was never going to win it and that seemed to be the case had NJ won game 6 of the 2000-2001 cup final. Instead the AVS won 4 to 0 and Ray Bourque scored on that one to give himself that chance to go out on top.

Moose once again, I'm not an AVS fan but I always like #77.

  6. The trophy and/or the Championship don't even have a direct name. It's the NBA finals or the NBA championship....Even those names have no passion.

  7. Dallas Drake.  Drafted by the Wings, more than likely finished with the Wings...with a Cup.

And I hear ya on the celebration.

  8. I think hockey players want it more. Not that basketball players don't but hockey players have dreamt of winning the cup since they were little kids. The cup is one of the oldest in sports and when the players lift it you can see their pure love for the game. Thats why hockey has a better celebration i think.

Well I don't really know many red wing players considering i was rooting for the pens but i do like lidstrom. But if your talking about anyime then it was when Rod Brind'amour lifted the cup.

  9. amen brother im a wings , pistons , tigers , lions , and a wolverines fan

i just loved seeing lidstrom lifting # 11 i cant wait till next season to see the first home game to see them raising the banner to the celing and to see them getting thier rings

  10. I swear to god when i saw the bball celebration, i was like the Cup Celebration is 10 times better. Not just because i'm a hockey fan, but just the way the cup is won, and how hard it is to get it. It just seems so much more dramatic, skating around on Ice while you hoist the Championship you've just won.. It's awesome...

I was the happiest for Drake to be honest, I mean i'm not his biggest fan, but wow after that long of being in the NHL and finally getting to raise the goal you've been trying to accomplish throughout your career was good.

  11. basketball is a snore. how people watch that c**p is beyond me. if you cant even go bananas when you win something you've been working so hard for then what the heck is the point?!

dallas drake. the mans grin brought tears to my eyes.

  12. I didn't even watch the NBA finals. I live in NC and only watch basketball if it's UNC. Call me a traitor, whatever.

But the Stanley cup presentation is the most meaningful in sports, especially since it's the same cup Howe, Richard, Bobby Hull, and all the other greats over time have lifted, and that makes it that much more exciting to get.

  13. Yeah.. i watched the finals and it didnt even feel like they won. i thought they could have had a bit more passion!

Cleary! the first Newfoundlander to hoist the cup!

  14. well i dont like basketball..the only sport i like is hockey.

but i was happy when brad stuart lifted the cup because i'm a sharks fan & he played on the sharks.

  15. Yeah, it was pretty boring. Like you said, there isn't much passion there compared to someone winning the Stanley Cup...

I was happy to see Daniel Cleary lift the Stanley Cup for the Detroit Red Wings.. He's my favorite player on Detroit.

  16. yeah, i watched that too and i was like BORING. that trophy was not as meaningful to the basketball players as the Stanley Cup is to hockey players.

sorry, but i wasn't really happy for anyone since i was rooting for Pittsburgh
