This japanese snack, its kind of like manju. it has a gooeytrancelucent coating,n innerpaste.whats the name?

dont worry, my english isnt that bad.d**n character limit. well yes, it has this...gooey kind of a cover, seemingly made of rice or something, and its trancelucent.. and. it... oh yea, the cover has powder over it kind of, mabey rice powder, to prevent the sticking, and most of the time..it has red bean paste in the middle..its kind of big, about the size of ur palm..but FRIKIN DELICIOUS! please tell me if u know the name of it! i wanna learn how to make it..i thought it was manju, and it turned out completely different..though thats yummy too !

It's called mochi.  The gelatinous outside is made of steamed mochi rice which is a short grained rice.  The inside is made of azuki beans cooked and rendered with sugar.  We make it every year at Oshogatsu or New Years.  If you're feeling adventurous, you can put peanut butter or lima bean paste or natto in the middle.  Plain mochi (with no filling) is fried and eaten with kinako powder or put in ozoni soup for the New Year. All are delicious!
