  1. The Bahamas main islands - Nassau and Grand Bahama - are exactly like Fort Lauderdale. Flat, not much scenery. The water is AMAZING, though, and Atlantis in Nassau is quite the [pricey] sight to see.

Jamaica has more spectacular scenery BUT...there seems to be more crime, targeted at tourists, then in the Bahamas. You won't find a waterfall anywhere in the Bahamas - if you go to Jamaica stick with a guide or a group and you will be safe.

If you fly from Nassau or Freeport to an "Out Island" such as Hope Town or Abacos or Staniel Cay - then you will find a slow paced, relaxed slice of heaven. Especially if you like to dive or fish.

    Good luck!

  2. UNLESS YOU'RE STUCK ON ENGLISH SPEAKING DESTINATIONS, THOSE TWO PLACES ARE ON THE BOTTOM OF MY LIST. IT IS DIFFICULT TO RECOMMEND PLACES TO GO AS EVERYONE LIKES DIFFERENT THINGS:  MARRIED/SINGLE, LAYBACK&RELAX/G0-GOGOGO, HISTORY BUFF/5STAR PAMPERING. GET MY DRIFT?

I ALWAYS REMEMBER, WHEN IN FIJI ONCE, I OVERHEARD 2 PEOPLE TALKING, ONE SAID HE ABSOLUTELY HATED HAWAII.  NOT THAT I WANTED TO DEFEND HAWAII, BUT  I TOLD  HIM IF HE DIDN'T LIKE IT THERE, HE WASN'T IN THE RIGHT PART--AS IT HAS EVERYTHING FROM THE ZOO OF WAIKIKI TO UNIHABITTED, AND EVERYTHING INBETWEEN!

JAMAICA IS OVERRATED AND OVERPRICED, EVERYONE HAS THEIR HAND OUT FOR EVERYTHING, AND I MEAN EVERYTHING;  NASSAU, UNLESS YOU'RE A HIGH ROLLER, SHOULD BE AVOIDED, FREEPORT-NEVER BEEN BUT HAVE HEARD MOSTLY GOOD.

ALL SAID AND DONE, THERE ARE BETTER PLACES, AS NICE OR NICER-- MY TOP TWO PICKS--CUBA-HOLGUIN AREA,-VARADERO IS MUCH BUSIER IF YOU LIKE, AND D.R.-PUNTA CANA-QUITE BUSY.

  3. No question is ever stupid.

Jamaica is dominated by mountains, mostly covered with lush, green forests. Blue Mountain is the highest point, at 7,402 feet. It's about the size of the U.S. State of Connecticut, and measures 4,400 square miles. It's 145 miles from east to west, and 20 and 50 miles from north to south.

The Bahamas, a wide-spread archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean located off the eastern coastlines of Florida and Cuba, includes over 700 islands, along with dozens of cays and hidden coves. These low-lying islands (all similar in appearance) are ringed by coral reefs and aqua-green waters that teem with sea life of all descriptions.

The official languages of both islands are English and Creole. More people live in Jamaica then all the islands of Bahamas.

I wish you good luck and hope you get to travel to the Bahamas and Jamaica very soon.)

  4. There is farmore violent crime in Jamaica, thanks to the rasta farian culture.......which is based mostly on ganja (weed)rather than their claim to ja and ethiopia. Thousands are being murdered by gangs. The Bahamas isn't much safer either wehn you consider the size and population. 46 murders in 2007. A European aristocratic couple bludgeoned to death in their hotel room in tiny Bimini Island by a local. If you are  White tourist, I'd give the Carribean a miss these days, robbery, rape, murder, a daily occurence. who needs a vacation like that.!
