We have a toilet that is sort of clogged or hard to flush, and we live in 150 year old house that was built before indoor plumbing, so you can imagine how horrible it is, anyway the old pipes run along the back of the house at almost no grade to the street.

I have a gallon of vegetable oil that is rancid.

can i flush this oil down my toilet or pore it down the shower drain to possibly LUBE the pipes and make things slide better for a second.

thanks!

  1. No!!!!!!!!!!!! That will only make the problem worse

  2. you will only add to your problems everything will stick to the oil and never make down  the pipe

  3. No, No, No... do not pour the oil down the drain.  Get rid of the oil in the trash or at a collection center that collects such things.  Your plumbing issues will never be solved until you get this plumbing replaced...

  4. Very hot water would work better than oil. Get a septic Co. out to root the pipe. Unless you have old Greenburg pipe made out of paper and asphalt tar during WWII, you should get better flow.

  5. NO! no oil!  You might try muratic acid......... but PLEASE be very careful this stuff is dangerous!!!  You can but it at any hardware store but READ and FOLLOW the directions completely!!!!  Again..... this stuff is dangerous!

  6. Do not poor grease down your toilet or pipes. grease will clog them.

You are going to need to call plumbers and get estimates on how much it will cost to redo the entire plumbing in your home. This includes the feed and drain lines.

Before choosing a contractor, ask them how many jobs they have done. Ask them if you can inspect the last residential job they had to re-pipe.

Check them out with your local Better Business Bureau.

Never pay them upfront. Do not pay them until the re-plumbing work passes your local codes inspections.

  7. That is one thing a plumber will tell you, S**t will not run uphill, but ,to get to the point , the old cast iron pipe will rust and stop up the drain completely , so it needs to be replaced.

Do not pour grease down the drain as this will stop it up completely when it gets cold and hits water.

  8. A large power snake would clear it out, like Electric Eel, powerful stuff.

Oils can cause more buildup, they don't lubricate drains.
